We are so thrilled for one of our couple-clients They thought they were going to have to sell two other properties before purchasing a new home when something quite unexpected happened. They received notice of unknown funds - a goodly amount too. It's a pretty fun story, but not mine to tell. Alas, it has nothing to do with the "Nigerian Letter Scam." Yet, it almost seemed to good to be true, and gave us all pause - until the cash was actually deposited in their local bank account.   Fortunately, we were able to get their cash offer accepted, with a contingency for evidence of funds to follow within 7 days, on a home they both fell in love with immediately. It suits them quite well and fits their desires to entertain and host overnight friends, children, and grandchildren. We are well p...

The triplets are growing.  ( Only two cooperated for the photo.) Our resident nest of Dark-eyed Juncos has kept us (well, more me) busy in the past week and a half - nervously watching. The nest hangs in a flower basket right outside one of our bedroom windows. Therefore, I've taken it upon myself to keep a check on them while their mom is out finding food. Bernie calls me the surrogate mom - neurotic, but well-meaning. I think he's right. One day, I failed to see either of the parent birds come to the nest and was certain a cat, or something, must have gotten them. I worried throughout the night that they'd be cold without mom sitting on the nest. In fact, I had planned to call the local bird folks to ask for advice.  However, the next morning, mom and dad were both there, taking turn...

Our Camas gardens are popping up with fresh color weekly. It was exciting to see these purple beauties in one of the gardens this week. At first,we identified them as Wild Plox. However, with only four petals, instead of five, we felt they warranted further investigation.  Sure enough, this wildflower is called Dame's Rocket, and erroneously, Wild Plox. It's actually considered an invasive species in many areas as it can choke out native plants.  We are especially concerned since we don't want it to encroach into nearby wild habitat. Oddly enough, you can actually buy seeds online, which runs counter intuitive once something's been identified as a problem.  We're bummed. Dame's Rocket looks beautiful, smells heavenly, and the deer don't touch it, it seemed perfect for our rural gardens....

A couple of years ago we celebrated National Pet Day on the Lacamas Heritage Trail with McKinley.  We not only had a great time, but were thrilled to see the Camas Lilies in full bloom. Not sure if we'll get out on the trail again today, but we will shower our Mac plenty of love - much like we do every day of the week. Happy National Pet Day.

Camas First Friday Align with nature...Magic happens.                                                                                                                   ~ John Friend              The magic of gnomes and fairies has always been celebrated at our household. The grandchildren, who call me Oma, substitute it for Gnoma at times, because they know how much I love these mythical nature spirits.  Therefore, we are especially excited about the Camas First Friday event next month. The Garden Gnome and Fairy Gala on May 4, is in honor of the Camas Plant and Garden Fair which follows in the next week.If you too appreciate Nature, no doubt you know gnomes are often considered the protector of the forest and healers of animals. According to some legends, the fairies work in concert wi...

We love one-of-a-kinds. Give us authentic and original - in people, places and things - and that goes for homes too. The ViewHomes™ we sell in Clark County, Washington tend to fit the aforementioned criteria. Mostly custom designed, they sit on acreage and have soothing views of Nature.  We thought it might be fun to highlight a few currently for sale in Camas, Washington.  This charming cottage, while small in size, offers privacy and stunning views on .57 acres. McIntosh Ridge is convenient to everything - and yet in this gated enclave, you'll feel miles away from everything.  Listed by ViewHomes of Clark County - Debb Janes and Bernie Stea  We chose this one in the Summit at Autumn Hills for Camas. It's a majestic and elegant home with stunning views of Mount St. Helens and the valle...

One of our favorite woodland flowers is the Trillium. This Northwest native belongs to the Liliaceae (lily) family. And while they are relatively easy to grow from their rhizomatous root, they are very slow to develop and spread. The upside - the plants can live for up to 25 years! We spotted them yesterday afternoon while getting some exercise on the Lacamas Heritage Trail in Camas. Nothing screams Spring like spotting these beautiful white flowers popping up between the rocks and moss.  The name trillium comes from the Latin word for three - they have three leaves, three sepals, and three petals. We have them growing in the forested area of our acreage in the hills above Camas. Due to the higher elevation our trilliums are still in the bud stage. As they age, the flowers fade from whi...

"Just living is not enough...one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower."                                                                                                 -Hans Christian AndersenWe've had Spring snow the last two days at our home in the foothills above Camas. Just when we thought warmer weather was on the way, Mother Nature tossed us a surprise. Expect the unexpected, right?  Yesterday, after most of the snow had melted,  I (Debb)  took a photo of one of Spring's hardiest and earliest bloomers - the hellebore. The flowers on this evergreen plant are always a welcome sight in late winter and early spring.  Hellebores are especially good in rural gardens as they are bee friendly, but deer resistant. They also like shade and work well under a canopy of tall fir tr...

Last week, we promised a generic introduction - and outro example for neighborhood videos. After all, videos take time to do well, but why not streamline the process whenever we can? While we may wait until the weather improves before doing our final generic neighborhoods introduction, we think this one works fine for now.  Before we show you our examples, here are some things to keep in mind for "all" of your videos. See you think we managed to incorporate those in our two examples. 1.  Be yourself. There is nobody quite like you - take advantage of it. 2.  As you produce more and more videos, a style begins to emerge. We think ours have a similar feel about them. We intentionally brand them with our individual style. 3.  Incorporate something unique to you, or that you care about, or ...

Spring is in the Air in Clark County, Washington   We woke to a beautiful blue sky this morning at our home in rural Camas. A coat of frost covered the deck railings and grass. The robins didn’t seem to mind - they know something’s in the air. The snowpack in the Cascade Mountains is melting, and the run-off is feeding springs, adding to the local watersheds.  Everywhere you look, Nature is at work with her annual rebirth.  Even a lone daffodil will soon be surrounded with cheerful companions.  Today is the first day of Spring, 2018. It’s time to celebrate the Earth’s renewal with ViewHomes of Clark County.
