Washougal WA is a DARLING of a Town! Delightful! Washougal, WA is a quaint little town. It's a "sister" city to Camas, WA which used to be supported in a big way by Crown Zellerback paper mill, which is now known as Georgia Pacific.         Washougal was a great place to raise our four daughters. They all attended Washougal Schools. We, as parents participated in their school activities and sports so we could know their teachers and friends. Washougal River Sandy Swimming Hole  is a popular place to swim and picnic!   This great swimming area is located on Shepherd Rd. and it's only a few blocks to downtown Washougal. The beach is usually full of families, teens and children playing in the Washougal River. The river kinda splits there and there is an "island" there where children play in the "rapids." In the summer, the Sandy Swimming Hole is brimming with people seeking sun, sand and fun.   There is a community concrete deck that is nice and wide and has some picnic tables for people to relax around and watch the summer fun below. There is also some convenient extra parking located east of the Sandy because the road and parking lot becomes quite full and crowded with cars hugging the edge of the road.       Washougal River and Territorial Views. This is a little video clip of the Washougal River in Washougal, WA that reminds me a lot of driving through Denver, Colorado. You can briefly see the winding Washougal River below in the trees. The flat level spot below is a community park which is part of a neighborhood up on 1st Ave.  The neighborhood has many gorgeous homes tucked into the trees--most of them you can't even see because they are off the road and back up above. Many of them are still waterfront but the actual waterfront is barely accessible.
