I can not remember a later spring in 25 years in Methow Valley, and it is very exciting to see the dynamic weather and what it brings.  The highway will open very late this year and everyone I know in Methow Valley  is taking bets on whether it will open by the big Memorial Holiday weekend in Winthrop Washington.      Rumor has it the temperatures will soar to mid to upper 70's tomorrow.  Methow Valley get those summer clothes out from the back of the closet. Methow Valley is located just east of the Pacific Crest Trail and South of the Canadian Border.  Even though many Canadians would consider this region very warm, for us US citizens it is the cooler part of the country with a far shorter growing season.  Looks like spring is arriving late and that means that my house has starts in every room in every window. Parenting a child, one tries to think ahead to every danger lurking out there and prevent any of it from touching the lives of your most treasured responsibility, your children.  I was visiting my sister and her little ones in Florida in a fairly urban community.  My sister shared that in Hong Kong (where she actually lives) it is a fulltime job for her to keep her darlings safe while entertaining them simultaneously.  I instantly noted how my sister watched over the children like a hawk and kept them very close at all times in Florida.  In beautiful and rural Methow Valley there are often no neighbors about, and no one is a stranger. Earth Day is a passionate one for many Methow Valley community members and business owners alike. The Farmers State Bank annual Earth Day celebration really outdid themselves this year. A Celebration it was as this special community rolled up their sleves and came up with a grand plan to help everyone go GREEN.
