We are lucky to have every major sport with a team in Denver.   Over the years, we have been to the playoffs and even won a few times!Again this year, we have the Avalanche (hockey) and the Nuggets (basketball) in the playoffs.   The fun thing is -- they both use Ball Arena in Denver for the games in town.    That keeps the maintenance crews very busy changing the stage from ice to hardwood floors for both teams. Both teams will play on Saturday.   The Avs will play the Dallas Stars in Dallas at 6:30 pm, and the Nuggets play at home at 1:30 pm.    It will be a cold and maybe snowy day here in Denver, so watching some sports sounds like a fun day!

An evening stroll through Green Acres Farm Memorial Park in Flower Mound from 7 to 8:14 p.m. proved to be worth my time. The Prairie Iris immediately grabbed my attention! Also known as a Celestial Lily, the Iris holds meanings of hope, faith, and wisdom. This plant was highly valued by Indian and Egyptian people who used the flower for medicinal purposes. As the story goes, the strong perfume of irises would be used as offerings to the gods.   The yellow Prairie Coreopsis may grow 1 - 2 1/2' tall. Typically, there are 8 yellow, petal-like ray flowers per head.  What's interesting about this plant are its basal leaves attached to the lowest part of the plant's stem, near the ground.     I discovered this unusual pink flower growing with the Prairie Grasses. Today is the first time one b...

I received a surprise package in the mail today! It has no name on who sent me the package of 10 wonderful old photos of the beginning Pee Wee football players in Searcy AR from 1969 to 1972.  This one is of the Duncan's Roadrunners.  Look at the coaches in the back.  Aren't they handsome!!  The one on the right is of my husband Rodger Duncan and one on the left is Sidney Quattlebaum and they were instrumental in beginning the teams and the program. Okay, next you are seeing a group of 9 pictures.  Someone way back there saved them and knew I would like them.  The gift was mailed from Alabama.  I'd love to thank the person who sent them!  I love and will cherish them so         SPEAK UP!  Tell me who the wonderful gift-giver is so that I can say THANK YOU!!!

This post is courtesy of WITF a Public Broadcaster in Pennsylvania serving the central part of the State. It is not about your typical railroad station as shown above.Inside Chester County lies Kennett Square, a town known for its mushroom farms. But hidden beneath its surface is a powerful history—one that reveals the courage, solidarity, and risk that defined the Underground Railroad. Today, that legacy lives on through the work of the Kennett Underground Railroad Center (KURC), located at 120 N. Union Street, Kennett Square, PA  19348 where volunteers are striving to preserve a story too long overlooked.“This is a very important item in history, and yet it has been set aside for so many years with no one saying anything about it,” says Debbie Burston, educator and board member of the...

We had a week of pretty cold weather two weeks ago (most of the week was below 30), so last week we ENJOYED 70's and 80's, and all of a sudden, leaves were popping out on the trees, plus blossoms, and bulbs are popping up everywhere.I have two oak trees on either side of my driveway, and they are usually the last of the trees to show leaves, but my neighbor's tree is GORGEOUS, all leafed out and white blossoms.   The builder planted several of these trees in our community, and it looks really pretty right now.We have been getting a bit of rain, and some dusting of snow every few days, so helping the grass turn green too!   In some parts of the Country, it takes a big for Spring to being!
