Yo-ho, yo-ho, a CT life for me! Connecticut: the nutmeg state, the constitution state, the place I call home! In this series I’m going to show you why Connecticut is THE place to live. Do you like color tv? How about helicopters? If so, you’ve got the state of Connecticut to thank for those inventions. Alongside those, it is also the birthplace of nuclear submarines and speed limits. 1901 was when the first speed limit was put into place at a whopping 12 miles per hour!  Another claim to fame Connecticut has Louis Lunch in New Haven. Family owned and operated, they are currently one of the oldest, family-run businesses in the country. They are also the birthplace of the hamburger sandwich. They are so committed to serving a classic hamburger that they will refuse to serve it with ketch...

It was about seven months ago that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian sold their heavily renovated home in Bel Air. The couple accepted an offer of nearly $18 million for the home, and would have almost doubled their $9 million investment of 2013 if it hadn’t been for an expensive series of renovations. It turns out the buyer last November was Marina Acton, a Ukrainian businesswoman with a keen desire to tread the boards as a pop singer. Acton is the wife of WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton. For one reason or another, she’s put the house up for sale in a hurry. The asking price is an even $18 million. The reason for the sale is a matter of speculation, but it may all come down to size, as Acton is expecting and may prefer a bigger place.     But. To the house. It measures about 9,000 square fe...

“A woman is like a tea bag, you can not tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water” “I have been very happy with my homes, but homes really are no more than the people who live in them.” “Pornography is pornography, what is there to see? Movies are attempting to destroy something that's supposed to be the most beautiful thing a man and a woman can have by making it cheap and common. It's what you don't see thats attractive.” “I am a big believer that eventually everything comes back to you. You get back what you give out.” “The Sixties, of course, was the worst time in the world to try and bring up a child. They were exposed to all these crazy things going on.”Nancy Davis Reagan (born Anne Frances Robbins; July 6, 1921 – March 6, 2016) was the widow of Ronald Reagan, the 40th...

In the United States, National Fried Chicken Day is observed each year on July 6th.  On this day, fried chicken lovers across the country celebrate this American favorite at a nearby restaurant, home or an outdoor picnic.Scottish immigrants brought their tradition of deep-frying chicken in fat to the southern United States.  After its introduction to the American South, fried chicken soon became a staple. Over time, seasonings and spices were added to enrich the flavor of the chicken.Fried chicken is a dish that consists of chicken pieces which have been floured or battered then pan-fried, deep-fried or pressure-fried. The breading adds a crisp coating to the exterior of the chicken.Traditionally the chicken is fried in lard.  However, corn oil, peanut oil, canola oil or vegetable oil a...

As an international student in London, you will live surrounded by history, elegance, and innovation at the same time. London is full of everything you could want from the infamous Big Ben to famous shopping destinations like Oxford Circus and fancy cafes in Knightsbridge. The infamous subway is always there to help you travel all over the capital within a few minutes. If you are a university student in London, living on-campus is not ideally the best choice to enjoy your experience abroad. It is better to search for off-campus student accommodation to enjoy London, and Casita can help you with that. Most student accommodation in London have unique amenities like a games area where you get to befriend other residents, a lounge area for events, a unique events calendar and some even have...

Politics. Religion. The Patriots. We all have different opinions about these subjects. However, I believe I found something that we can all agree on: the majesty of the night sky. This weekend, Mother Nature puts on a celestial display unlike anything you've ever seen in the last 20+ years: Comet Neowise. Your best opportunity to see the comet in Westfield happens this weekend before and after the Westfield Virtual Pizza Run.How to See Comet Neowise in WestfieldComet Neowise first came on NASA's "radar" on March 27th, 2020. But in the past few days, people all over the world searched the night skies to see what kind of performance it would put on for them. This Saturday and Sunday evenings mark the best nights to see the comet in New Jersey. Fortunately, the weatherman predicts crystal ...

The very presence of mold spores is normal in the environment. However, the presence of mold growth indoors is not normal and may pose health and/or comfort risks to some exposed occupants. Mold growth requires spores (“seeds”), favorable temperatures, a food supply, and moisture. Like plants, mold grows by spreading, and the release of spores. Mold easily spreads outward under favorable conditions. However, if conditions are unfavorable for growth, mold will go dormant and release spores into the air so they can find a suitable environment for survival. Moisture, nutrients, and favorable temperatures can lead to mold growth in water-damaged materials in 24 to 48 hours. Affected materials should be dried promptly to prevent germination and subsequent mold growth. Relative humidity level...

We fly “Old Glory” in our front yard every day. Displaying the flag shows the pride and love we feel for our great country. Unfortunately, the harsh Texas elements (extreme heat, rain and wind) eventually take their toll on our US Flag, causing it to become faded, tattered and worn. About every six months we have to purchase a new one. The old one is properly folded, and set aside for retirement. The government has specific guidelines on how to properly dispose of the US flag. It can’t just be thrown away. It must be retired properly, either by being burned during a dignified ceremony, buried in a dignified box, or respectfully recycled. None of those options work for us, so we have had to rely on others to help us dispose of our old and worn flags. Fortunately, the local Boy Scout Troop...

Since our governor recently mandated only outdoor dining, each city gave permission to its restaurants to increase their outdoor dining capacity.  Pictured above is a wide angle view of Coast Village Road, which is the main thoroughfare in Montecito.  Pictured above is the inside of the space that Lucky's has created. It felt like a garden.   We were chatting with the host who told us they had concrete barricades brought in to protect the space from an errant car, and then built tall plant boxes to diminish street noise.  They planted these beautiful plants to complement the look. They added lighting for the evening as well as heat lamps.  The host is hoping that this becomes a permanent feature after the health crisis is over with, as it has in the city of Santa Barbara.  We do too, be...

Sedona RoundaboutsWhen Arizona Department of Transportation decided to improve SR 179, the decision to put traffic circles or roundabouts became a very local issue. Citizens were split. There were many meetings to decide the best course of action. The decision was finalized and twelve roundabouts were put in.  Currently there is another roundabout being added where there is a dangerous intersection near Tlaquepaque on a road that feeds the SR 89A to SR 179.  Most Drivers Have Experience With Traffic CirclesDrivers who understand how the flow works in a traffic circle do a great job of keeping the traffic moving. The idea is to find an opening in the circle and move in. For those who have not navigated a roundabout, there is no need to come to a complete stop if there is no reason to yie...
