Thankful Thursdays. For Those Who Show You They’re Listening Have you ever spoken before a group and looked out over a sea of heads doing the “iPhone prayer”? The art of conversation lies in listening. Malcolm Forbes    When I was an affiliate with the WCR (Women’s Council of Realtors) in Palm Beach County, I often provided an opening inspirational story. I was a little nervous before stepping up to the podium. There was always one face I could count on to be sitting up front with a big smile on her face.  Pamela Banks, Florida agent and former 2021 President of the Women’s Council of Realtors, was always the boost I needed.  She sat there looking right at me with that big, friendly smile of hers and listened to every word I said. Don’t we all need someone like Pamela—someone who truly ...

This is my entry in the May 2025 Challenge: If I Had To Start Over... in which our Active Rain members Carol Williams and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 invited us to participate. If I had the chance to rewind time and start my real estate career all over again—with today’s tools, every hard-earned lesson, and the clarity that only hindsight brings—I’d approach things with sharper focus and deeper intentionality. One of the biggest takeaways from my journey is that time is a non-renewable resource. Early on, I gravitated toward unique, one-of-a-kind projects—the outliers that captured my curiosity, I still love those. But in hindsight, I’ve realized that the most sustainable and successful momentum came from repetitive, relationship-driven work: leasing within the same multifamily c...

We have some beautiful chalk art in our driveway, thanks to 2 of our 2 younger grandkids and my wife. Our younger daughter, her husband, and the 2 younger granddaughters were visiting for the Memorial Day holiday and to celebrate the older granddaughter's birthday a few days early.  The 2 girls spent a good chunk of time on their chalk art creations on Saturday. The "Dinocorn" (a Dino unicorn) above was created by our 10-year-old granddaughter.  The image in the upper left was done by the younger granddaughter (age 6) and the part with the rainbow was her older sister's creation. My wife even got into the act and created this "Japanese Tea House with Cherry Trees".  The weather on Saturday and Sunday was the typical May gray we get although the sun finally came out a bit in the late aft...

I write about my neighbor once in awhile Betty.  She will be celebrating her 103rd birthday June 12.  Just the other night about 9:00 she pulled in from the grocery store in her Cadillac, oh yes Betty grocery shops herself and drives.  Recently I had to go to the Chula Vista Rec Center to check out how we were going to set up the room for our social club event, Betty was there playing cards.  Talking to staff they said she is there 3 or 4 days a week.Betty has been a Villager since 1993, yep 32 years and we call her the Queen of Rio-One, that is the name of our neighborhood social club.  When Betty was in her mid 90’s she drove by herself to Wisconsin her home state.  Betty loves sending cards, Michelle and I get Thank You cards, Birthday cards, Christmas cards, Anniversary cards and ot...

We try to get our mowing in before a forecasted rain. We usually do pretty well in staying ahead of the problem of wet and overgrown grass. I have always owned several mowers so that Timmothy and I each have a mower as well as a backup unit. Last year two gas powered mowers died and I didn't have the power to resurrect them. That left us with one good mower and a vintage Black & Decker corded electric mower. This spring I sprung for a new mower. That being said I wish I would have stepped it up a notch. This is what I purchased.I have had good luck with other Yardworks lawn products but 40 volts is underpowered for a lawn mower. I am lucky if I get half the yard mowed before the batteries need recharging. If you are buying an electric (cordless) mower you may wish to purchase an extra b...

It’s that time of year!  Young people are graduating from high school and college and with that comes the excitement of starting their adult lives. But “adulting” can be overwhelming. One way you can help prepare the graduates in your life for the real world is by teaching them the importance of building up their credit.A good credit history is vital to securing loans, mortgages and other financial products. In fact, having “no credit” can make things almost as challenging as having “bad credit” can. So, it’s important to start establishing credit history as soon as possible. New high school and college graduates can build credit by paying their bills on time, managing debt responsibly and utilizing credit cards or other forms of credit.PAYING BILLS ON TIME Making payments on time will ...
