Maui Court Confirms Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Hotel Foreclosure
On May 5, 2011, at $75 million, Lehman was the sole bidder at the foreclosure auction of the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Hotel.   Lehman was the original lien holder on the property, which was owned by W2005/Gengate Realty.  Lehman’s bid was subject to court confirmation, at which time, bidding could be reopened with a bid 5% higher than Lehman’s May 5th bid.
In the court confirmation hearing on July 20, 2011, bidding was reopened by a new party.  However, Lehman remained the high bidder, recording at $95,000,000.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Kapalua: Maui Real Estate Update
Lehman Brother's Holdings has foreclosed on the hotel property, and auction is scheduled for May 5th in Wailuku.
As you may know, the hotel underwent an extensive renovation in 2007, which exceeded $180 million and a beautiful transformation.  During that time, the north (Honolua) wing was converted into 107 one and two bedroom condominium suites, which were then offered for sale as the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Residential Suites.  Since the initial offering, 34 suites have been purchased.  The foreclosure action does not apply to these privately owned condominium units, but rather to the 73 unsold Residential Suites units, the 296 … (3 comments)

ritz carlton kapalua: 16th Annual Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Tree Lighting Ceremony this December 4th! - 11/27/09 12:20 PM
Each year, the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua kicks off the holiday season with a festive tree lighting ceremony.  It's one of my favorite events to attend, and draws visitors and kama'aina from across the island.
This year, the theme will be "At Home in the Islands."  The evening includes live entertainment, keiki hula dancers, and a visit from Santa Clause. The event is complimentary and will benefit the children of Maui's homeless resource center.

ritz carlton kapalua: New Development Doesn't Have to Hurt... - 03/11/09 09:30 AM
I just came across this Segment by Tayfun King on BBC News which profiles Hawaii, and Maui in particular.  Mr. King covers the concern that over-development can hurt the islands.  As an example, a development in Makena, which has since been placed on hold, is featured.
As someone who grew up here on Maui, I naturally have mixed feelings about development. I personally wish that our state would embrace a more responsible development, providing the necessary infrastructure (roadways, sidewalks, hospitals, beach parks, recycling) and consider preserving more of our open space.  In addition, I question why the county has allowed larger time-share developments, yet has put up … (0 comments)

ritz carlton kapalua: It's that time of year again! - 11/30/08 10:05 AM
As it turns to a very chilly winter here on Maui (it was only 72 degrees this morning), I look forward to all the great things it brings: big waves on the north shore, kalua turkey at Thanksgiving, perhaps a rare snowfall at the top of Haleakala, and the decorating of the palm trees at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua.  The trees sparkle all month, but the lighting ceremony is a cherished local event.  This December 3rd at 5:00 pm, celebrated local musician, Henry Kapono, will perform as the trees are lit.   The Ritz-Carlton underwent a $160 million plus renovation this past year, creating 107 … (0 comments)

ritz carlton kapalua: A Vacation at Home - 10/11/08 03:49 PM
When you live in Maui, it's easy to take the island's natural beauty for granted.  Driving to the Kapalua Resort each day, I have to remind myself to slow down and take in the view.  The other day, I decided to take my day off and spend it as if I were on vacation.  I used my Kapalua Club card, and spent the day poolside at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua.  It was a beautiful, sunny day, and I strolled around the grounds, to take a few photos.  I hope that you enjoy them.
