MI Association of Realtors believes like you do. Appraisers should join us. MAR purchased an appraisal management company called Midwest. The goal is that the lender in MI choose Realtor Appraisers that belong to Midwest. When Midwest puts an appraiser on an assignment, the appraiser must belong to the "local MLS" of that area. The role out was presented at Achieve and there were many appraisers in the room with questions. Some are speaking against this, they are the people not in attendance while the program was rolled out and explained. Possible Property Tax Relief? In Nov. MI voters maybe asked to make major decisions about property taxes. House Speaker, Andy Dillon (D-Redford) says Michigan's tax system is too complicated. Property taxes continue to increase while values decrease. Representative Brian Calley (R-Portland) would like to add to the ballot a constitutional amendment to prohibit property tax increases when values stay the same or decrease. If the Legislature doesn't put Calley's amendment on the ballot, he will ask for signatures from the people of Michigan. He will need to collect 300,000 registered voter signatures. Time to talk RPAC! More than ever, we need the Realtors® Political Action Committee. Bill Martin from the Michigan Association of Realtors® spoke at the March Flint Chapter Women's Council of Realtors® meeting, and then Senator John Gleason came to FAAR to discuss the theft of materials for scrap money from homes. A political action committee is a group of people who pool their resources together to support candidates who support the industry. In the Real Estate business, we need people in office that support homeownership, understand property rights and understand the procedures / policies of selling real estate.
