I have attended Great American Realtor Days for the past 4-5 years, ever since I became active in my local association. If you have never been, it's an awesome opportunity to see the political process up close and personal. If we are lucky, we'll have enough time between our appointments with our legislators to watch them in session, if possible. It's one of the few times we as Realtors get to meet face to face and remind our legislators of the importance real estate has on both the local and state economy. I've been in Tallahassee for the past two days, at Great American Realtor Days, meeting with legislators and promoting Realtor issues, and we had some free time yesterday to visit the Old Florida Capitol Building to see the original Senate and House of Representatives areas (posting on that later), but here is a picture of the dome in the Old Capitol (located just across the courtyard from the current building):
And here is a picture of the dolphin artwork on the "back" steps of the current Capitol Building, taken as we were departing yesterday...

It's that time of year again, where Florida Realtors take their voices and population to the state capital in Tallahassee and deliver our stance on bills pending legislation. Our focus this year includes: Property Tax caps for non-homesteaded properties, which could help with second home/vacation home ownership for us on a statewide basis. Property Insurance, which needs to be addressed, as Citizen's is a state funded program, and more and more homeowners are using them, which exposes all residents should a catastrophe occurs.
