Increase Energy Efficiency #1 in Housing Satisfaction Gap.
The Demand Institute’s survey of over 10,000 households reveals what Americans have to what they want in their current living situations called the ‘Housing Satisfaction Gap’. Survey participants ranked the importance of 52 different home and community characteristics along with evaluated their current home on the same 52 characteristics. The report found the top ten largest Housing Satisfaction Gaps are:
Increase Energy Efficiency ~ Satisfaction Gap 36%. 90% of households have taken some measure in the past five years to consume less energy.

2013 Solar Decathlon Winners.

The DOE Solar Decathlon took place this year at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California from October 3rd to 13th. The Solar Decathlon is and award winning contest sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy for collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered homes that are energy efficient, cost effective and practical.
This year there were 19 competing teams from USA, Canada and Europe with the top six teams coming within a 26 point spread with Team Austria winning over all with the highest score of 951.922.

Technology for the Future Home.
Homes in the future will be automated and will communicate with utility providers to allow for better management and use of power supplies. Already we see this with appliances that communicate with the manufacture, smart thermostats that learn your daily routine and energy monitoring devices.
Along with that there are new and innovated devices coming out this year and in the coming years that will change the way we live and use energy.

Numbers Do Not Lie, Green Building = Saved $$$.
The numbers do not lie; we doubled the size of our 1400 square foot home in Connecticut and with easy to use Green Building practices and technology back in 2008 and the result are that we lowered our heating bill by over 15%. Our average oil consumption over 2 years (2011 & 2012 compared to 2005 & 2006) was lower by over 30% while doubling our living space. EarthHouse Architecture by Peter Vetsch. There are nine separate homes in this complex with a manmade pond located in Dietikon, Switzerland.  The homes range from 645 square feet up to 2152 square feet. The homes are constructed of sprayed concrete with a water protection added directly on top of that and then filled with a protective layer of natural earth.
