realtors: Confessions of an Ethics Instructor - 09/05/18 06:54 PM
Teaching Ethics to New REALTORS®

Today was my day to teach our new REALTORS® their intro to the Code of Ethics. This is a mandatory class with our Association (and NAR) and the class is 4 hours long. I remember several years ago I proctored this class and how boring the subject of ethics was. I wondered how much was sinking into the new agents heads or were they simply thinking about making their first commission.  It can be a very dry subject talking about all the rules and how we can get in trouble by not following them. It is easy to tune … (34 comments)

For the 4th year, fellow Realtors® and Affiliate Partners gathered for a Christmas Brunch and Trade Show. This year's theme was Tacky Christmas and prizes were given for the Ugliest Christmas Sweater and Tackiest Booth.  Many people were decked out and looking extremely tacky and fun. The event was held on December 14th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center and was a huge success. The tackiness had everyone laughing.

There were about 300 REALTORS® and supporters that came early to tour the booths and get to know the vendors better. A buffet brunch was served afterwards. The Annual Christmas Brunch … (21 comments)

The Focus is Changing - REBarCamp 2015 Nashville
Nashville had its 6th REBarCamp this week. I have been to the last three and the topics were changed this year. For those of you that don't know what REBarCamp is, it is a learning and sharing conference in a really relaxed setting. There are multiple sessions on technology and real estate topics and you have to pick and choose which sessions to attend. It is for Realtors and others in the industry. Our Nashville Camp was free by reservation until it was totally booked. There were around 700 registered to attend. We followed online … (26 comments)

realtors: Realtors Family Feud in Clarksville TN - 04/17/15 12:05 PM
Realtors Family Feud in Clarksville TN
We had a great time watching the old cronies of real estate face off with the newer agents in Realtor Family Feud sponsored by the Young Professionals Network at our local Clarksville Association of Realtors®. After having a buffet of delicious taco fixings and a variety of beverages, the games began.
It was Old School versus New School answering questions that neither group seemed to know a lot about. Ha Ha. The Old School showed off and pulled out a win. Last year they didn't do as well because the questions can be tricky. What a fun event … (20 comments)

realtors: REALTORS Get a Bum Rap from the Public - 07/24/14 10:52 PM
REALTORS® Get a Bum Rap from the Public
I read a post about agents not showing houses for a living and it got me to thinking that REALTORS® get a bum rap from the public. I have heard all kinds of statements over the years and have politely corrected the public but it is time to set the record straight. I want to let people know just what it takes to do the job right and what it's not.
No, it isn't as easy as it looks. We master our craft therefore you never see much of what goes on in the background. … (133 comments)

realtors: What's the Ombudsman Program at Clarksville Association of REALTORS®? - 10/10/13 11:39 AM
What's the Ombudsman Program at Clarksville Association of REALTORS®?

First what is an ombudsman? According to Webster's definition an ombudsman is one that investigates, reports on, and helps settle complaints. It was determined by the Board of Directors of the Clarksville Association of REALTORS® that a panel of its respected members could be trained to help the public with unresolved issues that arise when working with their agents in real estate transactions.
Many times communication breaks down and when that happens the parties become agitated and ill will replaces good feelings. A trained Ombudsman is to listen to the issues, facilitate communication and suggest the parties … (19 comments)
