At the end of Main Street on the top of College Hill is the entrance to Bloomsburg University, and since it had been there as long as I remember, it was easy to take it for granted. Since the early 1800's post high school education was available in the town of Bloomsburg. The beginning of higher education in Bloomsburg began in 1839 with the founding of an academy. Later in 1856 the academy was chartered as the Bloomsburg Literary Institute.
