home selling: Adventures in Real Estate - 12/28/09 06:30 AM
As I've mentioned before, I have a job along with another agent in our company cleaning the office once a week (a job which will probably disappear when the new agency comes in). Doesn't pay a lot, but every little bit helps. Yesterday I was cleaning by myself, as the other agent had gone home to visit family over the holidays. It took awhile, being alone, having to do the whole thing by myself. It's much easier when you can split the work up. I also took the opportunity to do a few things that we only do once in awhile, … (6 comments)

home selling: Sales Data for Sumter, SC March 1-15, 2009 - 03/20/09 04:07 AM
I'm late again.  Seems to be a trend.
For the period 1-15 March, there were sixty seven new listings posted. These were all residences; I did not include land or commercial properties.  I looked only at Sumter and the surrounding area. The lowest list price was $6,000 for an as-is where-is property that was an estate sale and listed, sold and closed all on the same day.  Highest was $780,000, a rebuilt (in 1969) colonial that was on the market a couple of years ago and never sold; looks like they're trying again, and asking a bit less than they were before.    Twenty-seven … (0 comments)

home selling: On Being the Bearer of Bad News - 03/07/09 07:13 AM
Eventually this won’t be such a common occurrence.  In the meantime, though, I’m not having much fun.
A fellow called the office week before last.  He’s one of the landlords whose property our property manager handles.  The company I work for now is very different from the company I used to work for in several ways, one of those being how rentals are handled.  The sales agents do not get involved.  This is a huge relief; we can concentrate on sales rather than talking to irate tenants or landlords or reading the list of available rentals to callers – many of … (7 comments)

home selling: Refinancing Problems - 12/07/08 05:13 AM
There is a house we had listed in our office (before I was working here) in 2006.  It was a new construction (built in 2005, actually, and sold in February 2006). It has four bedrooms, four and a half baths, 3000 square feet, and sits on 2 acres. It has a sunroom, a garage that accommodates 3 cars (one single door and one double door), a deck in back, a screened porch, a gas log fireplace, and a security system.  This was as it was listed back in 2005-2006.  The list price was $299,000.  It sold for $270,000.
Fast-forward to today.  … (0 comments)
