I suggest that you get there early, they bring in bushels and bushels of mountain apples, but they sell out quickly!!
This is one of my favorite annual events, see you there!

This event is personal to me and to a number of people.  I think everyone knows someone suffering from the effects of Alzheimers.  It is such a tragic disease, what it does to the mind.  Very sad to watch someone you love deteriorate, to the point that they don't know you anymore :(  
Let's put an end to Alzheimers --  walk for a cure!

It all began with the train!  Here is a plaque located downtown on Newberry Street near the fountain, and there is a statue of Mr. Aiken there, too.   Here are some pictures of the fountain and the statue.  This section of Newberry Street is off The Alley and is part of our festival block.  A majority of downtown festivals and events are located on this block!

Aiken SC.  The citywide aboretum has re-opened!  We have over 100 species of trees right here in our little city!  Grab a map from the box, near the library (corner of Chesterfield and Colleton), and take a stroll to see the trees and learn about them.        There is more information on the City of Aiken website - use the following link:   Aiken - Citywide Arboretum information      The arboretum has been recently updated, the trees have new index markers, and you can call a number to hear specific info on the tree species!  It's really cool.

This museum celebrates the racing tradition and Aikens role in it.  39 champion thoroughbreds - yes 39!!, have trained here and each have been immortalized in the Hall of Fame.    Flat racers and steeplechase horses, from 1942-present, are featured along with photos, trophies and other memorabilia highlighting the careers of these famous race horses.
Stop by and check it out sometime!  Very cool!!
