kelleys soapbox: 2012 - looking back, looking forward - 01/03/12 05:33 AM
Well, here we are.  A brand new year.  Eating my leftover Pork and Sauerkraut and hoping it will still have some residual good luck left in it!
I didn't make any resolutions for 2012, because I always end up giving up on it by the first week anyways, so the resolution was NO RESOLUIONS.  And so far, I'm sticking to it pretty well!  All I really hope for is that 2012 is a better year than 2011.  I think thats all any of us hope for isn't it...just to do BETTER than we did in the past?  To learn from our … (1 comments)

kelleys soapbox: My likes (and dislikes) for June 2011 - 06/22/11 06:47 AM
Summer has officially arrived.  The good old humid Ohio weather is in full play.  I don't care though...I love the summer (mostly).  Good to see some sunshine for a change, even if I have to face the 90 degree + temps that come along with it!  Here are some of my likes and dislikes for this month;
Likes:
1.  Realistic sellers.  I recently had a seller reduce their listing price from 85,900 to 68,000.  Whew!  I LOVE this.  I don't expect everyone to make such a huge price adjustment, but REALITY is the first good step to a SOLD home.  Too … (1 comments)

kelleys soapbox: My likes (and dislikes) for May 2011 - 05/27/11 08:01 AM
And the months just keep rolling by!  Here we are at Memorial Day weekend already.  Is it just me or does it seem like time just goes by faster and faster the older you get?
Here are a few likes and dislikes for this month!

1.  Memorial Day - Sure, everyone is excited to get a Monday off (maybe?) and looking forward to a get together or barbecue with the family.  Lets just take a minute and remember what this day is REALLY about.  Remembering all of those in our Country who have served and Do serve to make these … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Random Monday thoughts - 5/16/2011 - 05/16/11 03:09 AM
What happened to our warm weather?  Last week we were reaching beautiful 80+ degree weather.  Now, 50's again.  I guess it's like the old saying in Ohio goes..."If you don't like the weather, wait till tomorrow".  Here are just a few random thoughts for today...I cant seem to wake up!
Rob Mariano won Survivor!!  Yay!  OK...if you don't watch Survivor then you probably dont care, but I was one happy camper last night.  My family has had a long standing tradition of drawing names at the beginning of a new Survivor season.  The person with the winner gets 6 lotto tickets.  … (1 comments)

kelleys soapbox: You can't call this agent...text her if you want to hear from her. - 04/20/11 06:17 AM
Really?  When did it become SOOOOO difficult to answer a phone?  I have been attempting to reach an agent since last night, in order to schedule a showing.  I also called her office and was promptly met with a message saying to "leave your inquiry after the tone".  Ouch.  THAT's a whole different story.
So this morning, I was lamenting to my fellow in-house agents that I cant seem to get this particular agent to call me back.  And I was told "Oh, she never answers her phone.  If you want her, you have to text her".
Are we really becoming THAT … (87 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Random Monday Thoughts - 4/18/11 - 04/18/11 05:37 AM
Well, looks like I missed last week.  Frankly, I have been putting out so many fires lately that I could scream.  Part of the job I know, but not one I especially love!  Here are just some top of the head thoughts for today...
1.  You DON'T want to do an open house???  I run into this from time to time with my clients.  Some folks cant seem to get enough of these, yet others are adamantly against them.  WHY?  Beyond the difficulty of finding a place to go for two hours on a Sunday afternoon, and cleaning the house?  Well, … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Help me help you! - 04/15/11 07:29 AM
It feels a lot of times like I am up against a wall with the short sales I deal with.  Trying to help someone out of a bad situation, only to meet up against a wall at every turn.
Some of this is expected...
I EXPECT to have difficulties dealing with the mortgage lein holder.  Only lately has this process become more streamlined and the banks are STARTING to get it.
I EXPECT that I wont get an answer for an offer to purchase for a week, heck, sometimes 6 months.  I have long passed the days of seeing the irony … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Random Monday thoughts - 4/4/11 - 04/04/11 04:56 AM
Blech...such an icky day out.  There's no better word for it.  Rainy as all get out, and storms here, there and everywhere.  I guess on the plus side of this...April showers bring May flowers right?
I have seen flowers in bloom already here in Preble County Ohio, as well as little green buds on the trees.  Such a nice site to see.  Speaking of Spring...
I know, we all hate it, but its probably time to start thinking about your Spring cleaning.  This used to be a BIG tradition, back in the day.  Mom's (and maybe some Dad's) would clean the … (2 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Gotta love Karma! - 03/18/11 05:36 AM
You have just got to love Karma!  A month ago I was sitting in this very same spot, here at my desk, sweating over an upcoming event that frankly, was clouding every part of my waking (and sleeping) hours.  Since I'm not making this a "members only" post, I wont get into the specifics of all of this.
Lets just say that I had a former client who was upset.  At an ex-spouse.  At me.  At the sun for shining.  At the birds for tweeting.  At everything really.  And the path of destruction was headed right towards me and my career.  … (4 comments)

kelleys soapbox: What I'm liking (and NOT liking) for Feb 2011 - real estate and otherwise! - 02/25/11 08:41 AM
In an effort to cheer myself up out of a real bummer mood (darn snow!), I thought it might help me to get to thinking of some things I really enjoy lately.  Of course, me being me ;), I gotta throw in those DON'T like's too!
I'm liking:
1.  "Million Dollar Listing" on Bravo T.V. - Madison Hildebrand and company selling fabulous homes to the rich and famous.  Well, mostly just the rich!  Not really the true picture of real estate, but still good fun.  LOVE the homes, LOVE to drool over the money these guys make!
2.  Postlets - Postlets.com.  … (3 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Dear Lakengren...I don't have an off-road vehicle!!! - 02/15/11 03:19 AM
Yep...I've got a beef with Lakengren.  This doesn't happen too often.  I have lived in the Lakengren community (Lake Lakengren Eaton Ohio, Preble County) for 10 years now, and for the most part, I have loved almost every minute of it.
But, to be fair to myself and readers out there, I have to be honest in saying that sometimes things there just honk me off.  Things like politics that don't go how I would like them to, lack of voters showing up to have a voice in the community, drivers who seem to think the road in front of my … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Is this how the rich get richer? No thank you! - 10/18/10 03:35 AM
As a Realtor for the past 8 years, it's safe to say I've had some really good years.  And some really...well, not so good years.  Both professionally and financially.  I think this is status quot for lots of us; takes a couple years to work out the kinks and figure out what works for us and what doesn't.
During my career I have always kept my eye on the bigger dogs in the business to see what works for them.  You know what they say..."you don't have to reinvent the wheel".  There are a few bigger dogs in my neighborhood that … (10 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Lake Lakengren Trash Collection Ballot. Dont forget the fine point! - 02/22/10 05:51 AM
One thing that I was taught growing up, as I'm sure a lot of you were, is to never discuss religion or politics with people you don't know very well.  So here I am; about to discuss some Lakengren politics on a public blog.  Sorry Mom!
Let's talk for just a minute about the Lakengren Trash Collection Proposal.
Hopefully, those of you who live in Lakengren have had the time to study this new ballot, as it needs to be turned in by 4:30 pm on Friday, March 4.  Hmmm, they don't give you a lot of time to mull things … (1 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Saints around the corner - 02/10/10 11:49 AM
02/10/2010
Unless you've been living under a rock this past week, you surely have to know that the midwest has been hit hard with a snowstorm.  Being here in Eaton, Ohio, we've had some pretty heavy snows.  Though I watch the evening news and look at those people in the East and thank god we've only had the snow we have had.  It could be worse.
This past saturday, I rolled out of bed around 9:30 and went straight to the window, to see what old man winter had brought us during the night.  Here's a couple pics to give you … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Be careful of the bridges you burn - 11/20/09 03:54 AM

Maybe this wasn't something your parents ever said to you when you were little, but it was an often-used phrase in my home..."don't burn your bridges".
It took me a while to get the hang of this.  Its especially hard sometimes.  That job you've been wanting to quit for year; when the opportunity finally comes up, you just wanna run out of there screaming "kiss my heinie"!  That mean boss you took crap off of for who knows how long.  Didn't it feel GOOD to finally give him a piece of your mind?
What about all the clients out there … (92 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Police patrol in Lakengren Ohio...going where I maybe shouldn't - 11/06/09 12:44 AM
I know that the general rule is to keep politics out of your social networking.  Politics are best kept discussed with family and close friends.  Because it is such a volatile subject, and every person has their own position and stance that may, or more likely MAY NOT, agree with your own.
But...I'm going to jump into the political water here for a moment to discuss the recent levy that passed in Lakengren Ohio, regarding having a Preble County Sheriffs car on patrol for the community.  I'm even going to go so far as to tell you how I voted on … (0 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Are you a gamblin' man? - 08/31/09 06:07 AM
Maybe a Gamblin' woman?  I dont profess to know much about gambling.  Last time I stepped foot in a Casino, I was 17 years old and on a family vacation in Vegas with my parents.  It IS a goal to get over sometime soon to check out the new Hollywood Casino, but the plan is to be cautious.
The reason I ask this question of you; if you are a gambling person, is because of something that sparked my interest in this subject recently.  A conversation I was a part of.
The subject was a seller and a buyer, trying to … (2 comments)

kelleys soapbox: Preble County Ohio schools are losing focus of... - 05/01/09 04:52 AM
Namely:  The children.
Back in the day, going to school meant many things.  It meant a solid education.  It meant learning to work with and respect different types of authority figures.  It meant developing social skills with others.
Today, school still means something.  But I'm afraid the focus isn't where it should be.  The focus now is on test-taking.  Or should I say, test-passing?  I'm refering to the Ohio Achievement Tests, required for grades 3-8. My son started taking the OAT's a few years back.  His first year of testing...a few days before the test, he came home to me and said … (0 comments)
