january 2008: Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Leave Real Estate - 01/29/08 02:33 AM
In a comment I made on someone else's blog, I started this and decided to develop it into a Top 10 List.  So, on that note...
The Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Leave The Real Estate Business To Sell Cars
car salesmen have to go out in the rain or snow to greet their customers - a realtor's clients come inside;the commission possibilities aren't as lucrative;you have to physically deal with many more tire-kickers in car sales than in real estate;you'll still have to hear "but I thought my credit was better than that!";think of all the lonely houses just waiting … (7 comments)

january 2008: What's Happening in NE Ohio? - 01/28/08 02:44 AM
As I don't currently have any clients in Ohio, I typically am unable to answer questions other realtors ask me about the climate and market here.  So, I thought I'd come to the experts!
If you work in Ohio, how are things?  Slow?  High foreclosure rates?  Picking up?  What's happening in Ohio?
It is extremely helpful when I know how things are in different markets because it helps me to help my realtor clients.  So, I'm looking forward to any insight you can provide!

january 2008: The Most Unique Way To Use A Blog - 01/28/08 02:36 AM
I'd love to hear some of the unique ways that you are utilizing your blogs.  I have several clients who are interested in using a blog but don't want to do the typical "what's in my head" type of blogging.  So, I thought I'd ask where the experts are for some suggestions on other ways to use a blog.
Now, I know about using a blog to post information about listings so I'm looking for something else.
Unique!  Different!  Creative!  But preferrably ones that work!
I'm looking forward to hear from you and hope this blog gives others some great creative suggestions as well!

january 2008: How to Use a VA for Lead Management - 01/26/08 05:50 AM
One of the most important pieces in growing your real estate business is getting leads, right?  You want buyers.  You want sellers.  You'd love to get a buyer and a seller out of the same person.  But it would be nice if they were of the real variety, wouldn't it?  By real, I mean the buyers and sellers who are actually ready to buy or sell.  They most often don't just walk in off the street anymore.  The are usually jumping at you from your computer.  But then what?
Many of you are doing your best to work your leads properly and that's a … (2 comments)

january 2008: Everybody's Doing It - Why Aren't You? - 01/26/08 05:03 AM
It's true.  Doctors are doing it.  Lawyers are doing it.  Engineers are doing it.  So are banks, chiropractors, coaches, and more.  What am I talking about, you ask?
Focusing on a niche!
That's right. So many professionals have realized that, by focusing on a niche market, their businesses have expanded greatly.  How, you ask?

More qualified leads - As opposed to being a jack-of-all-trades, when you focus on a niche, the leads you get are much more interested in your services because they are specifically looking for service providers that do what you do. Faster business growth - When you … (10 comments)

january 2008: The VA - How on Earth Do You Get Started? - 01/22/08 09:39 AM
Agents are hearing all about how they should utilize Virtual Assistants but no concrete information about how to go about doing that.  So here's a series that will give you all you need to know about actually using a VA!
How on Earth do you get started??
Good question!  The first thing is to do some soul-searching.  What tasks do you currently handle that you would forego all the tea in China not to have to complete yourself?  What tasks do you currently handle that you feel just sap all the day out of your day?  Do you have any tasks that you … (2 comments)

january 2008: What, What, What is all this Hype? - 01/22/08 03:34 AM
Everywhere you turn, you're hearing or reading something about using a Virtual Assistant.  "They will help you grow your business."  "They will help you streamline your processes."  They are all the rage.  But you haven't yet made the jump.  The obvious reason is because you still have no idea how specifically a VA can assist you.
Have you asked any of these questions?
How do you get started using a VA?What tasks do you outsource to a VA?Why do they charge so much more than the $10/hour our in-house assistants typically cost? How can I make money if I have to pay a VA?What … (3 comments)

january 2008: Question: Posting Website Links - 01/21/08 03:38 AM
Let me start off by saying that I'm a marketing person.  I tell my clients that they should put a link to their website on everything that goes out with their name on it.  The more people see it, the more visible it is, the more chances that someone will click through and check out your site.
Having said that, I read a post today that stated you should not put your website link on comments to other people's blog posts.  So, as a newbie to AR, I thought I'd ask the question where I could get a good idea of the general … (13 comments)

january 2008: Hey! Let Go of My Stick! - 01/20/08 12:21 PM
I've been reading a lot this evening (probably too much!) and keep "hearing" the same thing over and over from realtors regarding using a Virtual Assistant.

I can't let go.
Having started your business as a sole proprietor and wearing every hat imaginable to make it all happen, it is completely understandable that you feel vested in every single area of your business.  But let's think about it.  How effective are you actually being by wearing all the hats?  And how successfully are you performing the tasks that each hat requires?  What happens when you have to wear more than one hat at a … (2 comments)

january 2008: Question: Associations and Subscribers - 01/20/08 04:08 AM
Can someone explain how having associations or subscribers enhance your profile on AR?  I've tried to figure it out but can't.  I've added a few people whose posts intrigue me as associates but what happens when you add them?  And what happens when you either subscribe to someone else's blog or have someone subscribe to yours?
Thanks in advance for your help!

january 2008: Question: Using Localism to Expand Your Client Base - 01/20/08 01:51 AM
I've come to love the Active Rain community in the last few weeks that I've joined and started participating.  However, I have a question.
Do any of you who are VAs use Localism to try and expand your client base?  If so, how do you do it?  I know how the realtors are using it but as a VA, I'm clueless how it will work.
Thanks in advance!

january 2008: That Time Management Issue - 01/19/08 09:43 AM
Leads are coming in left and right - from both buyers AND sellers.  Your drip e-mail campaign has been set up but you need to stay on top of the tasks that need to be implemented.  You got a new listing yesterday afternoon but, as of 5 p.m. today, you STILL haven't gotten a virtual tour set up (not to mention the ads that needed to go into Sunday's newspapers.)  You have 4 current listings that all need to have e-mail blasts sent to area agents as well as the Just Listed postcards that you haven't had time to put together, … (9 comments)

january 2008: Dealing with Difficult People - 01/19/08 05:41 AM

Is it just me?  Am I the only one who gets to deal with difficult people?  And, by difficult, I don't mean indecisive or wishy-washy.  I mean, people/clients who yell at you.  People/clients who treat you like the hired hand, but with less respect.  People/clients who feel you are at their beck and call.  People/clients who ask you to do something one way and then, when you do it, they say that's not what they said.  Difficult people.
I'm a pretty pleasant person, if I may say so myself.  I try to get along with people, deal with their idiosyncrasies, deal with … (69 comments)

january 2008: Why Hire Someone When I Can Do It MYSELF?? - 01/19/08 02:54 AM
The Virtual Assistant industry is all the rage lately but how many of you have thought about it only to conclude, why would I pay someone to do something I'm perfectly capable of doing myself?  After all, I've been a real estate agent for _____ (fill in the blank) years and I've managed just fine without one all this time.
Well, if you're anything like me, you only have 24 hours each day to accomplish all the tasks you need to do in order to stay on track to achieving your 2008 goals.  (And if you haven't set your goals for 2008, look … (6 comments)

january 2008: The Whole Thing About Blogging - 01/18/08 01:01 PM
Ok, I have to admit.  I started this whole blogging thing a little leary.  I thought I didn't have time for it.  I thought it wouldn't be worth my while.  I thought it would make me unproductive.  I thought, who on earth wants to hear what's in my head and why would I want to hear what's in somebody else's head for that matter??
Well, I've been blogging for a little over two weeks now and I have quickly realized what all the hype is about.  It is addictve.  Once you start, you can't stop. Once you start learning who different people … (21 comments)
