In the past two months, I've been receiving an unusual volume of calls from past clients and other property owners in Ashland County, complaining about their assessed valuation figures. Most of the calls I receive on this subject are from out-of-state landowners or second homeowners who absolutely flipped when they opened their most recent property tax bill! The typical call involves a landowner who calls to say "there's no way I could possibly sell my property for this figure, so how in heck did the Assessor come up with a valuation that exceeds the current market"? ashland county: Wisconsin Senator Bob Jauch's Office Discloses Over $2 Million Available for Improvements in Madeline Island County Roads

Recently, the office of Wisconsin Senator Bob Jauch (District 25) announced the availability of $2.1 Million in the State budget for improvements in the County Road system on Madeline Island. The available funds are part of Federal monies provided to the State of Wisconsin for various highway projects. Senator Jauch was able to secure the funds specifically for the purpose of undertaking Madeline Island road projects.
At the same time, the LaPointe Town Board has been reviewing the feasibility of purchasing nearly $3 Million worth of gravel for Island roads. In 2009, Ashland County plans to rebuild and blacktop County Road … (6 comments)
ashland county: 2008 La Pointe, Wisconsin Town Budget Up Seven Per Cent Over Last Year

The Town of LaPointe (Wisconsin) budget for 2008 will be up 7% over last year's levy. The total levy (including amounts for the Town of LaPointe, Ashland County, the Bayfield School District, the State of Wisconsin and Madeline Island Sanitary District) will be $5,849,971.31 for 2008.
The largest single portion of the total levy was for the Bayfield School District. The School District portion of the budget is nearly $2.5 million. Last year's 2007 levy represented an increase of 15% over the year before.

ashland county: What On Earth Are BPO Companies Thinking?

Our office received a phone call from a BPO company in Florida early today. The young lady requested that we do a drive-by BPO on a home in rural Wisconsin, about three hours from our office in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area and about an hour and fifteen minutes from our Wisconsin office in Ashland County. She was in a bit of a panic. She told us the BPO was needed for an approval that had to be ready by the end of the day today. She was totally unfamiliar with rural northwestern Wisconsin. ashland county: Cross-Country Ski Trails at Big Bay State Park on Madeline Island Are Now Open & Groomed!

2008 Wisconsin State Park vehicle stickers may now be purchased on Madeline Island. The 2008 sticker is now available at Big Bay State Park, at any Wisconsin DNR service center or online at www.dnr.state.wi.us. The cost for Wisconsin residents is $25 and for non-residents it's $35. Owners of a second vehicle in the same household (vehicle must be registered at the same address) may obtain an additional vehicle sticker for half price. Wisconsin State Park vehicle stickers allow unlimited visits to over sixty State parks, State forests and designated recreational areas. ashland county: 2007 Ashland County Fair begins August 30 in Marengo, Wisconsin

This year's Ashland County Fair begins August 30 and runs through September 3rd, at the Ashland County Fairgrounds in Marengo, Wisconsin. Marengo is about twelve miles south of Ashland on Highway 13. Events will include a horseshoe pitching tournament, drag racing (including motorcycle, three and four-wheeler drag races), a lawnmower race, carnival, "Dirt Dash" races, "Mud Run", pool, volleyball and softball tournaments, plus live entertainment. In the evenings, there'll be dancing in the Red Dog Saloon and music by Will Johnson. Fireworks will follow the Mud Run on Sunday, September 2nd.
