wra: Wisconsin Supreme Court Challenges Town's Authority to Impose Moratorium on Development - 01/19/08 02:34 PM
In December of 2007, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court reached a split decision on a case which will result in review (and possible reversal) of an earlier law that authorized local governments to temporarily bar development on private property.
In a historic split decision, the Wisconsin Supreme Court sent the case back to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals for review.  The Court affirmed that the law authorizing a temporary moratorium on development is unclear and further stated that towns' legal standing to impose such a moratorium may be questionable.
In some instances, private property owners have complained that such temporary bans on development are unduly burdensome … (0 comments)

The WRA Midwinter Convention is just a couple days away.  The theme for this year's Midwinter Convention is "Northern Exposure".  And judging from the weather forecast for the next couple of days in north central Wisconsin, I'd say that theme is appropriate!

In the Friday, December 14 issue of the WRA (Wisconsin Realtors' Association) Newswire quotes Bill Shue, President of RealtyU, as suggesting that in the current challenging market, agents "would be wise to start blogs" and suggests they "join social networking sites such as ActiveRain and RealTown".

Prices for lakeshore are stable or even increasing in some areas.  … (4 comments)

Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA) Board Chairman Michael J. Spranger reported today that state budget negotiations have resulted in the defeat of a proposed increase in Wisconsin's real estate transfer tax.  The proposal would have doubled the existing transfer tax.
The Wisconsin legislature had been divided for some time over Governor Jim Doyle's proposal to double the transfer tax.  Spranger characterized the victory as a "big win for REALTORS®, but an even bigger win for young couples, working families and senior citizens".
Wisconsin's real estate transfer tax will remain at the current rate of $3.00 per $1000 of value.
