listing: Craigslist Scam Alive and Well - 02/23/10 11:39 PM
Many of you are familiar with Craigslist, the centralized internet network.  A feature of Craigslist is the free online classified ads which include jobs, personals and housing.  A common scam is for listing information to appear in a fake ad and then the property is advertised for rent.  When people call the fake numbers they get the scammer.  Usually it is a long-winded story but the end result is the same: the scammer makes off with the prospective renter's money.  Please be aware that this scam, including multiple variations of it, are still alive and well on Craigslist.

There was an article in the New York Times yesterday regarding one couple's quest to find a home near New York City.  The interesting part of the story was that it was basically all done online.  The couple were in Kenya and learned that one was being transferred to NYC. So they did what a lot of buyers do: they went online and started looking.
