Beautiful day on Maui. The wind and the surf both came back today. The wind being a welcome relief to cool off the hot weather, and also finally the kiteboarders and windsurfers are back in the water. This time of year people flock to Maui for sailing. Windsurfers have been dead in the water for a couple weeks with no wind. This morning I was surprised to see surf. Today was the annual Haiku Maui Flower Festival in Haiku Maui. It was a bit of an iffy day with a Kona Storm blowing hard southerly winds. But that did not stop the show from going on. Haiku is a different part of the island of Maui. It is just a hop, skip and a jump from living in Hana, but with out the drive. When you drive past Paia Town you entered the realm of the north shore. We are experiencing a Kona Storm in Hawaii right now. What this is, is a storm that developes out of the south west, and brings strong winds and rain. For Maui, sometimes this can be worst than a hurricane, being we never get hit by hurricanes. Winds can get up to 80 miles an hour.

Last night, the news was saying that the winds were going to blow, 10 to 20 miles an hour. Winter is here on Maui. I woke up to early, the trade winds were just whipping up to 35 mph. We are experiencing fantastic weather on Maui, right now. I love Kona winds, which bring off shore winds for the surf. The last couple days have been excellent at Hookipa Beach Park. The waves were bigger yesterday, but the waves were happening. I had to be in Wailea, for work at 10am. So I was up at 6am, on the road with a hot cup of coffee. Early morning surf check, signs are good and I am out there.
