tips and tricks: Newspaper and Magazine Print Ad's - 06/08/08 03:21 AM
Remember print ads? Those dusty, musty, fusty old relics of the century past? Well, they're still with us, and if your company isn't running them in newspapers and magazines, they probably should. Despite the ubiquity of commercials on radio and TV; despite the onslaught of banners, pop-ups and all manner of intrusive online ads; newspapers and magazines are, and always will be, a mainstay forum for mainstream advertising.
There's something about the readiness, the handiness, and the feel of a magazine or a newspaper that appeals to the nature of human beings. As we page through a magazine or a newspaper … (5 comments)

tips and tricks: Lessons In Leadership 17 & 18 By Colin Powell - 05/17/08 01:12 PM
LESSON SEVENTEEN
"Have fun in your command. Don't always run at a breakneck pace. Take leave when you've earned it. Spend time with your families." Corollary: "Surround yourself with people who take their work seriously, but not themselves, those who work hard and play hard."
Herb Kelleher of Southwest Air and Anita Roddick of The Body Shop would agree: Seek people who have some balance in their lives, who are fun to hang out with, who like to laugh (at themselves, too) and who have some non-job priorities which they approach with the same passion that they do their work. … (1 comments)

tips and tricks: Lessons In Leadership 15 & 16 By Colin Powell - 05/17/08 01:07 PM
LESSON FIFTEEN
Part I: "Use the formula P=40 to 70, in which P stands for the probability of success and the numbers indicate the percentage of information acquired." Part II: "Once the information is in the 40 to 70 range, go with your gut."
Powell's advice is don't take action if you have only enough information to give you less than a 40 percent chance of being right, but don't wait until you have enough facts to be 100 percent sure, because by then it is almost always too late. His instinct is right: Today, excessive delays in the name … (1 comments)

tips and tricks: Lessons In Leadership 13 & 14 By Colin Powell - 05/17/08 01:05 PM
LESSON THIRTEEN
"Powell's Rules for Picking People"-Look for intelligence and judgment and, most critically, a capacity to anticipate, to see around corners. Also look for loyalty, integrity, a high energy drive, a balanced ego and the drive to get things done."
How often do our recruitment and hiring processes tap into these attributes? More often than not, we ignore them in favour of length of resume, degrees and prior titles. A string of job descriptions a recruit held yesterday seem to be more important than who one is today, what she can contribute tomorrow or how well his values mesh with … (1 comments)

tips and tricks: Lessons In Leadership 9 & 10 By Colin Powell - 05/17/08 01:01 PM
As Promised
LESSON NINE
"Organization charts and hence titles count for next to nothing."
Organization charts are frozen, anachronistic photos in a workplace that ought to be as dynamic as the external environment around you. If people really followed organization charts, companies would collapse. In well-run organizations, titles are also pretty meaningless. At best, they advertise some authority-an official status conferring the ability to give orders and induce obedience. But titles mean little in terms of real power, which is the capacity to influence and inspire. Have you ever noticed that people will personally commit to certain individuals who on paper … (0 comments)

tips and tricks: Persuading sellers to be realistic - 05/07/08 04:40 PM
New technology creates data that are tough to refute
Bernice RossInman News
Persuading sellers to be realistic is a consistent challenge for any real estate agent, especially in a slowing or a declining market. Recent technological innovations make this much easier than ever before.
In previous columns, I have discussed how to use rate-of-absorption numbers to help sellers be more realistic about the probability of selling their home. For example, if there are eight months of inventory on the market, the probability that a seller will sell in any given month is 12.5 percent. The probability that the seller will not sell is 87.5 … (3 comments)

tips and tricks: How to Capitalize on Today's Market Conditions - 05/03/08 12:52 AM
Great Article by Bernice Ross
The question is how can you capitalize on today's market conditions to increase your income in 2008?
1. Target active market areas. Regardless of where you work, there are some locations and price ranges that are more active than others. Watch the sales board in your office as well as the MLS statistics. Focus your marketing efforts on those areas that have the most business. If you do face-to-face prospecting such as door knocking, calling on for-sale-by-owners, prospecting owners of expired listings, or holding open houses, make active areas your first priority.
If you normally work … (3 comments)

Working in real estate can be an awfully lonely feeling. It can also be a weighty one. tips and tricks: E-Mail Tip - 03/03/08 02:20 PM

Because of the convenience & speed of e-mail, people use it more frequently to communicate. There is no gesture, no tone, and no volume. There is no facial expressions intent, or emotions in an email. An E-mail is just words on paper from someone they have never met or only met a few times.
It is almost too easy to send e-mail with a negative emotional impact. Once you hit the send button and your e-mail goes charging across the Internet, you can't bring it back.
Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, you might be tempted to say something you would … (0 comments)
