Jack Tatum, the fearsome former defensive back of the Oakland Raiders known as "The Assassin" for his aggressive and hard hitting play, returns today to North Jersey to attend the traditional Thanksgiving Day game between his Alma mater - Passaic High School and rival Clifton High. Tatum will be honored by having his #32 retired by Passaic High during a pre-game ceremony at Passaic's Boverini Stadium. Tatum, a 3 time Pro Bowl selection with the Raiders, is arguably one of the best football players to come out of North Jersey. The B Squad Junior Hornets Cheerleaders won Pom Pom overall and 1 degree of excellence in cheer at the Fairleigh Dickinson Cheerleading Competition on 11/23/2008. This was a terrific acheivement by the girls after a season of hard work and hours of practice that also coincided with the boys Championship Super Bowl win over West Paterson. The Township of West Caldwell NJ Police Department has begun it's annual winter coat drive - collecting winter coats for the homeless. This annual program is held in conjunction the New Jersey Cares Coat Drive program. Donations may be dropped off from now until December 21st at the West Caldwell Police Department - 21 Clinton Road. All of the coats collected will be distributed to those less fortunate residents in the West Essex area. Now that summer and vacation time has virtually come to an end and the new school year has begun, organized recreational and competitive sports programs for children have started up again. The Little Falls NJ Recreation Department has some terrific programs available for township school age children.
The first program is "Athletes in Training" which will introduce young children (3 1/2 - 5 yrs old) to a wide range of sports and games including basic skills of soccer, football, basketball, hockey, baseball...and more. But here we are - opening day of the National Football League - and my team - the NY football Giants - defending Super Bowl Champions officially opened the 2008/09 season with a victory over conference rivals - the Washington Redskins 16-7

Since we first posted about the Little Falls Farmer's Market a few weeks ago, there have been quite a few changes. So we'll attempt to bring everyone up to speed on the details. The once a week market, taking place every Friday (until October 31) from 8:30am until 4pm in the parking lot behind the Little Falls Township Municipal Building (corner of Union & Main - across from The Mill) has been a rousing success thus far.

There will be a public tour of Passaic Valley Regional High School in Little Falls on Saturday September 20 at 9 am - in anticipation of the upcoming capital improvement projects referendum. The public referendum vote will take place on September 30. Superintendent Dr. Viktor Joganow, Business Administrator Paul Gerber, and Supervisor of Buildings Tim Platt will lead the tour. Steve Secora from the architectural firm LAN Associates will also be there to answer questions. If approved, the capital improvement projects at PV will begin in the spring of '09 and end by the summer of 2010.
