Newtown, CT Holiday Decorating Contest The 2016 Holiday season brought something new to Newtown, CT - the Holiday Decorating Contest. This new tradition was born from the memories of a local resident who grew up in New Jersey. Her town had such a competition when she was growing up and her fond memories of it made her want to share it with the people of Newtown. She started with a Facebook Page for the Holiday Decorating Contest and as the excitement for this event grew, people flocked to this page. Newtown, CT Beautiful Baby Photo Contest Giavanna Dentice, 8 months, was the first baby entered in this year's Beautiful Baby Photo Contest. She is held by her mom, Mary Dentice, in front of the Voting Booth with her entry photo in the #1 slot. This contest is an annual fundraiser for Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), a non-profit that builds handicap housing for severely disabled young military personnel at no charge to the soldier. Newtown Middle School Halloween Contest Every year, as Halloween approaches, the most amazing display materializes in front of the Newtown Middle School. The Newtown Middle School Halloween Contest is actually called the Scarecrow Contest and the middle school students create the displays. Each display has a number on a yellow tag and you can vote on your favorite - although it will cost you $1.00. Check the Newtown Bee for ballot information on the Scarecrow contest.
