palm harbor: Palm Harbor Must Be the Place to Be...Pinellas County Home Sales on the Upswing! - 07/18/10 11:50 AM
You know--it has seemed as though things are picking up a bit, and the stats don't lie!  Sale of residential homes are at only a two-month inventory in Palm Harbor, Florida right now.  Here are some groovy numbers for ya:
241 is the number of actively marketed listings 79 is the number of listings under contract, with contingencies (likely short sales) 72 is the number for pending sales, (normally within 30 days); and 77 is the number of homes SOLD in the past 60 days This means nearly half of the Palm Harbor market was either sold and closed in the … (0 comments)

palm harbor: Craig's List Rental Scams--Watch Ads Carefully - 05/04/10 02:45 AM
An interesting thing happened yesterday--a woman came to my door asking about one of my rentals...not the house I'm in, mind you--one in the neighborhood.  I do not give out my personal information on my rental ads, so, mind you, this was a little odd.
Turns out, she found my ad on Craigs List and when she did some research on the home in question, because the rent was so low and the ad response so strange--she dug a little deeper and found me.  Here is how the ad read:

palm harbor: What's Quick About a Short Sale? - 09/15/09 06:05 AM
I guess we all know the answer to that one by now:  Nothing!  There's nothing "short" about a short sale--ask me, as a person of diminutive height, I can tell you that short sales are nothing about shortness!  So, where from did this term derive, anyway?
Well, put simply, the real estate market is just like any other market--and selling short is market terminology.  When you sell a stock short, you are actually purchasing under the assumption that the future price of the stock will fall.  When you sell a property short, you are asking to purchase a property which has … (5 comments)

palm harbor: The Cottages of Lake St. George - Palm Harbor, Florida Affordable Community - 09/09/08 01:41 PM
Lake St. George is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Pinellas County, Florida, because of its proximity to both downtown St. Pete and Tampa, the lovely white-sand beaches in Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, and Clearwater, and the best schools in Pinellas County.
This adorable cottage can be had for less than it would cost to rent - for the right buyer willing to do minimal damage control.  It is in foreclosure, and listed for under 100K.

palm harbor: Palm Harbor Hosts ForeclosureBusTampa.com Preview of Foreclosure Homes - 06/22/08 01:03 AM
Palm harbor has been my home for over thirty years, so I guess you could say I'm a little biased when I feature this community.  I think it is one area that has everything--including easy access to all of the other small local communities, such as Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, and Safety Harbor, as well as Fred Howard Park and Clearwater Beach.
The following video features a new foreclosure POOL home, in a deed-restricted community, and for the new homeowner who does not mind putting in a little sweat equity, this would make a lovely new home!

It's a New Year, and it's going to be A Beautiful Year in the Real World, so I thought it only fitting that my FIRST post of the New Wonderful Year 2008 is one of inspiration! As you may or may not be aware, I've spent the past year in some pretty amazing transformations, and now it is my goal and solemn promise to myself that I help others achieve the same kind of positive growth in their own lives. palm harbor: More Reptiles for Palm Harbor, Florida--A Salamander?! - 09/23/07 12:41 PM
It Ain't a Gecko...
Many locals may already know (since it's pretty big news around here!), that our own Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor local icon--Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club has been purchased by Salamander Hospitality.  As if the aligators, snakes, and lowly anole aren't enough reptiles, now we've got a salamander, too!
Entrepreneur Sheila Johnson, perhaps best known for founding the BET Network with her ex-husband, is the only woman to have a stake in not one, but three professional sports organizations--as managing partner of the WNBA's Washington Mystics, and as a partner in Lincoln Holdings, LLC, which has an … (0 comments)

palm harbor: Baywood Village, a Palm Harbor, Florida Well-Kept Waterfront Secret - 09/06/07 10:13 AM
Since the late 1950's, a lovely, quiet waterfront boating community has graced the Suncoast of Florida, just North of sleepy downtown Sutherland-now known as Old Palm Harbor, and just South of the famous Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks.
The area is known as Baywood Village, although the 564 homes which comprise the neighborhood are actually 5 separate subdivisions, all uniting under the single umbrella of the Baywood Village Association, a voluntary association with over 300 members.
What began thirty years ago as a primarily retirement or vacation home neighborhood is now close to 90% year-round owner occupied, 43% of whom commute to downtown Tampa or … (2 comments)

palm harbor: Adventures in Sailing - 08/30/07 04:27 PM
You may (or may not) be asking yourself:  "Where has that Lola been lately?  Why, she used to spend half her weekend in the Rain...now, well..."
I can't think of anything better to do here on our beautiful Suncoast of Florida, then to be out on the water--wind in my hair, sun in my face, the only sound the flapping of the sails, hum of a rudder, swoosh of the wake behind...
OK, I flatter myself, I'm sure I haven't been missed--even so, I've been having Adventures In Sailing!  Yay!
As my good friend Capt. Bob would say:
"Believe me, my young friend, there … (8 comments)

palm harbor: Brookmasters Toastmasters, and Breaking the Ice - 08/30/07 03:48 PM
As you may or may not already know, I recently joined Brookmasters Toastmasters, in an effort to overcome an old, persistantly nagging, embarassing, finger-twisting, blushing, um-ahing aversion to public speaking.  We'll leave my annoying writing habits out of this discussion, thank you very much...
So, my first speech...went well, for the most part.  I "um"ed and "ah"ed a little, was somehow miraculously married to my notecards prior to approaching the lectern, and in an attempt to 'cover space' and connect with the audience, I managed to 'dance' instead, in what was apparently a distracting fashion--crossing and uncrossing my ankles as I fumbled through … (5 comments)

palm harbor: 2007 Heartwalk - The Heart'Beats' again! - 07/12/07 07:29 AM
OK, I promise this will be my only plug here, but I am attempting to garner early support for one of my favorite charities, the American Heart Association, which this is the Second Annual Nature Coast Heartwalk for my champion team:  the Heart'Beats' (yay!  woohoo!  go team!)
A story about why I do this:  I have a friend whom I've know for years, who at the age of eight years old had what amounts to a stroke, which in the 1960's when it occurred was not a common thing.  His family didn't think he would live, but he did, going on to … (2 comments)

palm harbor: The Pinellas Trail, or: "Who the Heck was Fred E. Marquis?" - 06/26/07 12:50 PM
I started this blog as an addendum to the "Ode to Otto", the recently departed primate from the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, and quickly stumbled upon one question I'd never even thought to ask before:  "Who was Fred. E. Marquis, and what the heck did he have to do with the Pinellas Trail?  (Answer below.)  In the entire Tampa Bay area, I cannot think of a better way to get out and enjoy Florida than this thirty-plus mile stretch of asphalt known as the Pinellas Trail.
The Pinellas Trail is, for many locals, the best place to go in Tampa Bay for … (6 comments)
