ormond beach fl real estate: Sinkholes swallowing Citizens - 09/14/10 03:20 PM
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sept. 8, 2010 – Citizens Property Insurance Corp. asked state regulators Tuesday for a premium increase, in part because sinkhole costs are swallowing up more and more of the company’s money. The company is asking for premium increases averaging 10.9 percent in 2011 for its riskiest homeowner policies. While much of the attention around property insurance involves hurricane risk, Citizens officials say that the state-run company took in $19 million in premiums for sinkhole coverage last year, while paying out $97 million in sinkhole-related claims. The Office of Insurance Regulation panel did not take a vote on the … (0 comments)

ormond beach fl real estate: Florida Foreclosure Outlook - 01/30/10 03:17 AM
According to information released this week by RealtyTrac, 2010 will be a dismal year for homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages.  In its Year-End 2009 Metropolitan Foreclosure Market Report, RealtyTrac shows that cities in four Sun Belt states accounted for all top 20 foreclosure rates in 2009 among metro areas with a population of 200,000 or more (Florida accounted for 8 metro areas). Even more worrisome is their assertion that foreclosure activity shows signs of spreading into previously insulated areas as unemployment became more of a driving factor.  "While it was expected that cities from states with the highest levels of foreclosure … (0 comments)

ormond beach fl real estate: Florida Homeowners may Benefit from new Federal Short Sale Guidelines - 01/16/10 05:23 AM
Florida is one of the hardest hit states in the country for number of foreclosures.  Many of these could have been avoided if the homeowners were able to sell their properties as short sales, but the process has been very lengthy and many sellers ended up in foreclosure.  Now, new federal guidelines will give lenders a 10-day limit in which to respond to purchase offers.
In addition, the new rules call for sellers to receive $1,500 moving allowances-and for the sellers to not have to repay any of the debt. Also, lenders will get $1,000 to cover administrative and processing costs, while … (1 comments)

ormond beach fl real estate: Will Realtors be Leaders in 2010 - 12/06/09 11:23 AM
Recently I read an excellent commentary in RisMedia by Tami Bonnell, president of the U.S. Organization for EXIT Realty Corp, on the Real Estate of the Future.  She said, "As I see it, there are three words that come to mind as we move into the future of real estate."  These were Lean, Clean, and Green.
She challenged me to look at my own real estate practice and - while it's a bit early - make my new year's resolutions to insure I do business as she suggests.
1.  Lean - this isn't just about the belt-tightening most of us have … (2 comments)
