cleveland orchestra: Cleveland Orchestra braves the blizzard to play at Carnegie Hall, I put a house under contract.. - 02/07/11 05:45 AM
While on tour with the Cleveland Orchestra we had to contend with the monumental blizzard we had last week.  Our concert in Chicago was cancelled so we spent an extra day in Ann Arbor before going on to New York.  Read the New York Times review our concerts at Carnegie Hall.  Even though I was out of town I managed to get a home under contract, so overall I would say it was a great trip!

cleveland orchestra: Traveling Italy and Switzerland with the Cleveland Orchestra - 08/26/10 09:42 PM
I've spent the last two weeks on tour with the Cleveland Orchestra and have really enjoyed the last few days in Merano, Italy (ritzy spa town) and Lucerne, Switzerland.  Yesterday I took my mom up Mt. Pilatus and we had a fantastic ride on a cog railway up the mountain.  The view of the Alps from up there was truly magnificent and we were lucky to have fantastic weather!   Here are a few pictures from Merano & Mt. Pilatus.

cleveland orchestra: Vienna Update... - 11/01/09 01:43 AM
Last night the Cleveland Orchestra performed the Beethoven Piano Concerto #4 with Mitsuko Uchida as soloist and after intermission a searing rendition of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony.  Prelude to Act I Wagner's Lohengrin was the encore.  The audience loved it and demanded numerous curtain calls.  For those of you who know a little about music history, you might be interested to know that Gustav Mahler's grand-daughter was in the audience during our Thursday night concert and loved it!  Only in Vienna...

This morning at the Wiener Musikvereinsaal the orchestra rehearsed a little bit of a new piece that we have played … (0 comments)

cleveland orchestra: Wienerschnitzel and Sachertorte - 10/30/09 04:07 AM
Greetings from Vienna! In one week the orchestra has visited Toronto, Paris, Luxembourg, and now we are in the beautiful city of Vienna. Last night we performed the first of three concerts here in the famous Musikvereinsaal, the home of the Vienna Philharmonic. With it's gold leaf on the statues lining the hall and it's fabulous acoustics, the orchestra sounded beautiful and the audience loved it. We must have had about 6 curtain calls and we played an encore- the overture to the 3rd act of Wagner's "Lohengrin". This morning I visited the Leopold Museum and saw a very interest exhibit … (2 comments)

cleveland orchestra: Cleveland a smash at the Salzburg Festival! - 08/26/08 02:19 AM
The past 17 days here have been really special! Not only is this a beautiful city surrounding by picturesque mountains, the Cleveland Orchestra's performance here have been truly great. The critics have been united in their highest praise for the orchestra and it's Music Director, Franz-Welser Most. Simply put, we are the "hit" of the festival. The opera, Dvorak's "Rusalka", was exquisite with unbelievable singing. Last night a post-concert dinner reception was held in St. Peter's Keller, which is a restaurant founded in the 800's. It was quite lavish and the food delicious. You can imagine the sense of history here … (0 comments)

cleveland orchestra: Ugh, what a mistake...I finally got my first listing under contract! - 03/27/08 02:56 AM
All of my friends have been telling me "what a bad time to get into real estate!".  I disagree... This is the BEST time if I want to learn by experience, not by theory. Well boy did I learn!  My first listing is finally under contract after a YEAR.  My mistake--- letting the buyer set the price and then following the market down through a series of price reductions.  Not being able to convince the buyer to stage the property and make improvements also did not help.  What did I learn?  If a potential seller will not take my advice about … (12 comments)

cleveland orchestra: Cleveland Orchestra in Vienna - 10/31/07 04:13 AM
Last night we performed our first concert in the famous Musikvereinsaal, the home of the Vienna Philharmonic and the site of the famous New Year's Day concert with Walter Cronkite. With it's beautiful decorations, history, and fantastic acoustics, it's always a treat for musicians to play there. Last night's program was Mozart Symphony #28, Debussy's "Iberia", and Beethoven's 7th Seventh symphony. We had curtain after curtain call and the normally reserved Viennese audience was very extroverted! Tonight is Ligeti's "Lontano" ( a very beautiful modern work) and the Bruckner Ninth Symphony. Since both our conductor and Bruckner are Austrian, the Viennese … (0 comments)

cleveland orchestra: Cleveland Orchestra- Luxembourg and Cologne - 10/27/07 09:22 AM
We just finished 1 concert in Luxembourg and 2 in Cologne. Luxembourg is a very nice banking city which obviously has lots of wealth. There are large pedestrian malls with beautiful shops. On our free day some of us rented cars to get out of the city and visit some castles. We enjoyed the rebuilt castle at Vianden and the partially-rebuilt castle in La Brouchette. I would highly recommend visiting both if you are in the area. The concert hall in Luxembourg, which we opened two years ago, has excellent acoustics but is a little boomy because of the extremely high … (0 comments)
