st john: Check out Northwoods Restaurant in St. John Indiana - 04/01/07 06:43 AM
This is one of my favorite local spots to have dinner. The massive log structure feels like your deep in the woods at a hunting lodge. In the warm weather the extra large deck is great. If I had to recommend one dish..I would have to say try the Fireside Fish. If you want more detailed information...check out their website.

Sort and get rid of things you no longer want or need. Have a garage sale, donate to a charity, or recycle.3. But don't throw out everything. If your inclination is to just toss it, you're probably right. However, it's possible to go overboard in the heat of the moment. Ask yourself how frequently you use an item and how you'd feel if you no longer had … (0 comments)

st john: Northwest Indiana Garage Sale Tips 101 - 02/24/07 11:34 PM
Use a yard sale to reduce the clutter in your home and get rid of items you don't want to move. 1. Check with your city government to see if you need a permit or license.2. See if neighbors want to participate and have a "block" sale to attract more visitors.3. Advertise. Put an ad in free classified papers, put up signs and balloons at major intersections and in stores near your home. 4. Price items ahead and attach prices with removable stickers. Remember, yard sales are supposed to be bargains, so don't try to sell anything of significant value this … (0 comments)

5 Common First-Time Homebuyer MistakesThey don't ask enough questions of their lender and miss out on the best deal. They don't act quickly enough to make a decision and someone else buys the house. st john: Northwest Indiana Real Estate 102 - 02/16/07 05:28 AM
1. Decide how much home you can afford. Generally, you can afford a home equal in value to between 2 and 3 times your gross income. 2. Determine if you have enough downpayment to qualify for a mortgage. Ideally, you should have 20 percent of the purchase price as a downpayment 3. Consider other sources of help with a downpayment. For example, if you have an IRA account, you can use money you've saved for buying your first home without paying a penalty for early withdrawal. Also check with your state and local government on downpayment assistance programs for first-time buyers. … (0 comments)

st john: Why buying a home is better than renting a home in Northwest Indiana - 02/16/07 05:21 AM
1. Tax breaks. The U.S. Tax Code lets you deduct the interest you pay on your mortgage, property taxes you pay, as well as some of the costs involved in buying your home.2. Gains. Over last five years (1998-2002) national home prices have increased at an average of 5.4 percent annually. And while there's no guarantee of appreciation, a 2001 study by the National Association of REALTORS® found that the typical homeowner has approximately $50,000 of unrealized gain in a home. 3. Equity. Money paid for rent is money that you'll never see again, but mortgage payments let you build equity … (0 comments)

st john: Three Must Know Facts for Home Sellers - 02/15/07 06:07 AM

"The difference between listing your home at any price and getting your home sold is often about honesty".
                                                                                                                 Suzanne Willems
First: Some real estate agents will engage in a bidding war of sorts to win a listing. This is unfortunate as no winners will emerge from this battle of inflated values. The seller is left wondering what went wrong.
Second: Every over priced home serves only to help the correctly priced homes sell. When a serious buyer is looking for a home in a particular neighborhood, the buyer agent will show all the homes available for sale, then the recent comparable … (5 comments)
