east kensington: Is Port Richmond the Next Hot 'Hood? - 06/25/13 05:20 AM
The Inquirer makes a case for Port Richmond in this spotlight on one of our favorite neighborhoods.  But it's not just the awesome pierogi and Polish specialties that makes Port Richmond hot. The article points out something that we have indeed been noticing, that Port Richmond is getting younger, with its affordable pricing drawing in buyers, mainly in their late 20s and early 30s. Our own Chris Somers of the Somers Team was quoted in the article:
"The sections of [zip code] 19125 that are not really Fishtown still get more attention, such as East Kensington west of Frankford Avenue and north of … (0 comments)

east kensington: Realtors Against Selling Properties in East Kensington/Fishtown - 06/20/11 04:26 AM
You read it correctly. Realtors AGAINST selling Real Estate. It is unusual, we agree, but sometimes you just have to say NO to development in order to embrace progress.
We are talking about saying NO to selling and developing a piece of land located at Emerald Street and Dauphin Street in the East Kensington neighborhood close to Fishtown. This parcel of land if sold will be developed into a townhouse. That alone is not the problem. The issue is that this land is located smack dab in the middle of a community park and green space! Developing this parcel will destroy … (3 comments)

east kensington: It's a Kensington Double Date: Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby and Trenton Ave Arts Fest - 05/13/11 01:11 AM
It seems like these two events have been going on forever, but it's only year six for what is possibly the most bizarre weekend event that Fishtown and Kensington has to offer. That said, we would not miss it. If you ever had any question that Philadelphians are a creative force to be reckoned with, this is 100 proof.

east kensington: Kensington for Dummies, Part II. - 04/13/11 04:12 AM
We're back to clear up your Confused-by-Kensington-itis. We discovered the ever-confouding West Kensington in Part I and now we're going to finish up with Kensingtons both Old and New.
Below West Kensington, you'll venture into Old Kensington, which borders Northern Liberties and is commonly referred to as Northern Liberties by those who are afflicted with Confused-by-Kensington-itis. We're all guilty of this at times -- Northern Liberties clicks with people who are new to the area and is closer to Center City. If we say "Old Kensington", sometimes it's harder to get people interested!
But Old Kensington is one of the coolest fringe neighborhoods in … (0 comments)

east kensington: Kensington for Dummies, Part I. - 04/12/11 08:09 AM
Are you afflicted with Confused-by-Kensington-itis? Do you find yourself asking "What is Kensington"?  We hear this question from buyers, sellers, and Philadelphians from all over and we hear it OFTEN. Not many people can decide on the boundaries, exactly which part of Kensington they're visiting, or if they should just pretend it's Fishtown or Northern Liberties.
Even Kensingtonians themselves are not always sure where exactly they are.
Old Kensington, New Kensington, East Kensington, West Kensington, Kensington South, Port Fishington.  There's so much Kensington out there that we decided it was time.  Time for what?  Kensington for Dummies.
Kensington is a section … (1 comments)
