Today we read a great post by JoAnn Greco at PlanPhilly about something exciting going on near Bodine High School at George and Orianna St in Northern Liberties. This school is right next to the Orianna Street New Construction Project and it's about to be the location of a little more eye candy...One of the biggest mural projects is officially under way at Bodine, reports PlanPhilly. A full day of beer, bands, bubbles, performers, sunshine, amazing and endless selections of food, and the businesses of Northern Liberties took over 2nd Street on Sunday for the annual 2nd Street Festival. This was the biggest year yet! When we say we love Northern Liberties, this one of the many reasons why. Thanks to everyone involved for a wonderful event and we'll see you all next year!

Leo Razzi. You may not know him personally but if you have walked through Northern Liberties, then you know his sculpture work. Bike racks, gates, door accessories, local restaurants. Razzi's touch on the neighborhood is one that will continue to shape and influence the design of the area for years to come. And perhaps inspire others... Razzi doesn't know it but we're naming this sculpture "Little Leo". So far, the neighbors, dog walkers, and passersby love it. The neighborhood of Northern Liberties certainly has many small, independent shops, gourmet delis and cafes, and there always seems to be plenty of spots for those looking to grab a unique bite. One thing it is missing, if you ask any resident, is a full supermarket to serve the rapidly growing community. For the past few years, the neighborhood was promised a Pathmark next to the Piazza, which we've covered before. We're simply jazzed to see what was a Northern Liberties institution back on the menu soon. Ortlieb's Jazzhaus, the neighborhood music venue and drinking establishment that was rated Top 10 Jazz Clubs in the Country by Playboy, is to be revived by Avram Hornik and Mark Fichera.
