Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Tired of Kate-Bashing

By

I have to admit I am caught up in reading all of these articles about Jon & Kate's separate lives. I don't know why, I guess it is like when people slow down to look at an accident on the highway - you just can't look away no matter how much you know you should and actually want to.

One thing that has been bothering me more than the fact that this is a failing marriage in the public eye, and in the long run there are eight children whose lives will be affected, is the Kate-bashing.

Post after post, article after article, claim Kate to be a "monster" who "thinks she is a celebrity". OK, well, the Dictionary.com definition of celebrity is:

1. a famous or well-known person.

2. fame; renown.

Synonyms:

2. distinction, note, eminence, stardom.

Well, what part of that definition is NOT Kate Gosselin?

As for the "monster" who gets her nails done every two weeks, tans every week, and has had plastic surgery to improve her looks, how many women out there have done/and/or do that? And much of this was paid for by sponsors or the show. So how can a woman NOT feel pressure to be and look perfect when her own "people" pay for her to have procedures to look "better"?

Not one of us can say how we would react or be if we were in her shoes. Coming from nothing, a poor childhood living in a trailer park, the appearance of unlimited income, free plastic surgery, fame, and adoration must feel like a dream. So her actions and behavior may very well be a reflection of that - where she is living in a dream and not reality.

That is not to say that I agree with her choices, her behavior, or her life. I do not have to like her. I have only watched the show once - the episode when they return to the old house to clear out the rest of their things. It was PAINFUL. I could not watch it, mostly due to her conduct.

Yet much of America DOES watch the show, and does so on a regular basis. So how are we, collectively, free of blame for this person being a celebrity?

In the long run, the worst part, as I mentioned before, is that there is a failing marriage and hurting family. The best case scenario is that some other celebrity starts making big news so this family can work out their issues out of the public eye.

Here is the truth: bashing Kate, Jon, or anyone else does NOTHING to help the situation. I wish the Gosselins well.

I agree it doesn't actually help the situation the Octimom is no different. They put themselves in the public eye and the public is what it is. They want to see a trainwreck, that is why we have newspapers like the star, shows Entertainment Tonight, all these shows do nothing but take bad moments and show the public over and over and over again.

As long as we keep buying the papers and the shows, they will keep giving us what we want.
