Omaha Plans Bike Lanes for City Streets

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Greater Omaha 20041001

Omaha bike riders look to the future as the city makes plans to add 20 miles of marked lanes to city streets.  This will allow residents in many areas to ride their bikes to work, the store, local shops, and more.  The first commuter route in the Benson area is scheduled to be completed this summer.  Other proposed bike routes are at Aksarben, Happy Hollow, Doorly, Midtown, and connections to existing bike trails.

While private donations from the Peter Kiewit Foundation and an unnamed donor are being used, some federal stimulus money will be used for some lane improvements.

Great idea. We should have probably done this twenty years ago, especially around creighton and UNO. Almost every major city that I've been to has bike lanes at least around the colleges. Is this something from the new Suttle administration or a carry over?
