The Yellow Post People - Sponsored Featured Post

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

Yellow Post People

The yellow post on the top of the dashboard is a Sponsored Featured Post.  Sponsored Featured Post is what it says in the fine print there.   The ActiveRain member is  paying money for that spot.

Should we be nice to them?

I don't mean like giving them our credit card numbers necessarily but at least respectful of them?  Stop by and say "Hey great post, thanks for sharing" if that is what  you usually do.  Or cut and paste in the comment you are leaving on 9 other ActiveRain posts if that is your style.... or not comment, just move along and read something else if it is not something we want.  Business as usual.

Do you ever comment on Sponsored Featured Posts? I think today may have been only the second time I have commented on a sponsored featured post,  Or maybe I contacted one of the vendors via email, rather than commenting the first time I was curious about something I saw advertised.

As much fun as it might be to gang up and kick a vendor around I don't know that it is good business for anyone. It's an ad. Won't it be hard for ActiveRain to sell Sponsored Featured Posts if we abuse the vendors? Just wondering...

They are doing all of us a favor.  We have far too many infomercial members of late.  They should be buying ads such as the ones at the top of the page.

I am not sure if the Sponsored Featured Ads are any more commercial than a non yellow post  from someone who is a member trying  to sell us something.

Lead generation

Advertising

I am really not encouraging folks to comment on them... if they wouldn't comment on it, but I think some people get awful snarky about how commercial the yellow posts are, or the product, or the business model.  People who would be ignoring the vendor  get possesive of the space on the dashboard.

It's bought and paid for.

Maureen,

You would think that someone paying for that position would have gotten a bit more information correct in their ad. I don't generally comment on those, but if the product is something I need, I would contact them directly.

It is kind of a weird hybrid post.

I don't know what ad you are referring to Rich I have seen people use the comments on Yellow Posts to pick apart the ad, rag on the product, attack the business model.... question how commercial the post is.  The same post NOT on the dashboard is going to get ignored.

Maureen, I can't say that I have even read one of these. I knew that it was a paid for spot. I get so bombarded by folks trying to sell me stuff I do not want that I just ignore these ads...

Pocono Mountain .... said " I also NEVER cut and paste comments." me neither but lots of AR members do. Michael I believe most of the sponsored posts are written to real estate agents but maybe I don't notice sponsored posts written to home inspectors or lenders.

I am not sure that given the postioning of the ad, members are all of the understanding that this is "paid for blog" as opposed to a featured blog.  The Rain Gods don't ask me first...:)...point of clarification would be good.  Comment...hmmm..same as any other...if I have something to say....

Maureen,

I did not think about it before, but when I read your post, I thought that I have never opened a sponsored post I anticipate that they are advertising, so I simply skip them. Like Lenn, I often get angry with people who try to mask their ads as "normal" posts, and I think that they should rather be buying ad space in the form of sponsored posts.

At the same time, what is good in this model, if they pay for a position, whihc we clearly understand as advertisement, and which may have very little chance to be looked at? Why would someone shell out money if it is not generating desired action?

Would be interesting to hear from someone who posted there. So they get requests by e-mail rather than comments?

Hi Maureen... I have read a few of them, but have never commented.  The again, I always stick to organic search results, never Pay Per Click results, so I guess that says something about me too.

I think it looks like an ad same as the paid Google ads or the ads in some print publications.   It says it is a "Sponsored Featured Post", Jeff told us what they were and where they'd be before they started.

I have clicked on a number of them.

I wish AR more vendors who want to advertise to us... You can ignore them as easy as you ignore other ads on AR and elsewhere or not.

I emailed the one I was very interested in because... well because...

I wonder why someone chooses to do this rather than the other ads.  I guess those are just a logo and a link...
