I have always and will continue to door knock as long as I am in the biz. It is great exercise, lol.
Yes, many people say that it is a waste of time but in a market like the ne we are in it can set you apart. You will have some doors closed on you and meet some rude people but you will also be greated by many willing to talk to you. Maybe not about real estate but about things going on in the area. This is your chance to shine.
While I have not had a great success with it I have had some and sometimes it is just nice to be outside. When you do go make sure to take a notepad and some liturature to had them. This can be some local info or something relative to real estate. If they do not answer than simple leave it ont he doorstep for them, maybe even write a note saying "sorry i missed you"
If you do not look like you are enjoying it than they will know so try to be happy while you door knock.
Good luck
Tom,
When I have time to "door knock" I knock on the doors of my sphere of influence with what Buffini calls a "pop by", a small catchy gift like a cd at Christmas time or some BBQ sauce and a spatula for BBQ time, or something like that. And then visit with them for a few minutes to see how life is. I end with the phrase "by the way, I'm never too busy for any of your referrals" often times they will mention someone on the spot that they recently talked to that is thinking about buying or selling a house. Makes for some very effective door knocking.
