The Real Jersey Shore - Not MTV Style

I felt that I really had to write something about the New Jersey shore since we have been getting a lot of slack from MTV's The Jersey Shore.  I realize that there are certain things as a realtor I can and cannot say based on the code of ethics so I will refrain from discussing my opinion about Seaside Heights or the people on the show.

I have lived in Central New Jersey my entire life and always look forward to my summers at the Jersey Shore.

For those of you who have not been to the Jersey Shore and do not plan on ever coming based on what you have see on the show, please reconsider.  Our beaches are clean and our ocean seems to get more and more clear every year that I visit.  Lavallette Beach which is about a 15 minute drive from Seaside Heights has a lovely boardwalk, no ride or games, just a lovely boardwalk to walk on throughout the day or night, and a town to walk to dinner or shopping.  Pt. Pleasant is very family-oriented and has their own boardwalk with games and rides and nightlife for the adults.  Bradley Beach is great for day trips to the beach.  Long Beach Island which is further down the coast is probably my favorite.  (Probably because my in-laws live in Barnegat so I have a place to stay :)).  Long Beach Island is extremely family-oriented, clean with a lot of things to do.   My in-laws have a house on the water with a boat, second channel from the bay.  The guys go fishing for the day while the girls take the kids to the beach.

I will never forget last summer.  I brought my 3 daughters down to Ship Bottom in L.B.I. for an evening walk on the beach.  A storm had just passed through the day before.  I'll never forget because my father-in-law told me that we wouldn't find many shells, just a lot of seaweed.  Well, we didn't find a lot of shells, but what we did find was hundreds and hundreds of starfish washing ashore.  My daughters and I were just amazed because what are the odds of finding one starfish let alone hundreds of them?  It truly is beautiful there.

We take the kids to Fantasy Island in Beach Haven where they have a few rides and games for the kids to play, a water park and lots of shopping at Bay Village.  Of course Seaside, Wildwood and Pt. Plesant are the places to go for the best rides...

Stone Harbor and Avalon are also very beautiful beaches that I've been to.  There are so many other beaches along the coast...too many to mention.   Cape May is at the tip of Southern New Jersey.  I stll haven't made it down there, but from what I understand it's beautiful as well.  One day...

Anyhow, for as long as I can remember we always vacationed at the shore.  Each year is filled with great memories and there will be many more to come.  Of course you are going to have the party spots at the shore, like any place...and I know I've had my share of fun times at them with my friends when we were younger.  Now that I'm older and wiser and a mother of 3 beautiful daughters, I know exactly where I need to be with my family.

When I worked for the travel agency and would travel to the Caribbean I couldn't believe the beaches there.  I thought I would never like the Jersey Shore again.  But I was wrong.  I would encourage anyone who hasn't been to the Jersey Shore to put it on your list of places to vacation at.  In my opinion, July is the best month of all!  If you ever make it here, let me know what you think.  Hope this blog post got you out of your winter blues...

MTV's Jersey Shore is a joke. Actually living, working and playing there is not. Anyone who wouldn't move there as a result of what's portrayed on MTV probably wouldn't be a good neighbor anyway!
