Mr. Gore...Please!!

Dear Mr. Gore:

It has come to my attention that you currently own a bunch of this "global warming" stuff. Somebody told me that it was due to some sort of "cap and trade" thing that you are involved in. Now I don't claim to understand this high finance stuff, as I have enough problems trying to figure out all those surcharges on my power bill, let alone trying to figure out how to pay the darn thing.

Any way, this winter here in Florida has been pretty brutal, with subfreezing temperatures and even snow flurries the other day. As a struggling Real Estate salesman, I am having problems convincing our northern neighbors to move here as they are not getting any better weather here in the "Sunshine State" than they are giving up.

So, if you have some of that "warming" stuff extra, could you please share it with us?

Thank you.

Disclosure: Any ramblings by my "evil twin" are not to be taken seriously unless verified by my "good twin". If you agree with my opinions then I take full credit. If you disagree and take offense, then every thing came from a usually reliable source who heard it from a friend, who heard it from some one who has an Aunt who once worked at a Holiday Inn. Have a nice day!

Hey Jim, I don't want to get into a whole political debate here but unfortunately some of the pundits on T.V. seem to misinforming people about Global Warming/Climate Change and weather.  Climate Change is what we see over decades/centuries. Weather is what we see on a daily basis.  However, the Climate Change does affect the weather, sometimes in a counterintuitive way.  What we have seen with the record snowfalls back east and down your way can be explained by the change in jet stream airflows caused by warmer oceans which are caused by global warming.  It is quite complex, as would be expected by something as large as our global climate.  I don't fault you and others for discounting Al Gore's and science's findings.  There's a big oil backed machine out there trying to discredit it.  But I ask this question to anyone who may be skeptical of the whole Global Warming/Climate Change theory:  Wouldn't it be better to err on the side of caution, and pay a few more dollars in taxes to maybe prevent a calamity rather than do nothing and find out decades later that we could have done something to prevent the calamity but chose not to?  I mean even if it turns out Al Gore and his buddies were wrong at least we would have cleaner air, cleaner water, and be energy independent.  But what if they're right? I wouldn't want to live in a world like that and I wouldn't want to pass it on to my kids.  Thanks for the post and best of luck to you.

Jim, as one of those future snowbirds who in fact is heading to your state next week to practice and try out future retirement, you hit the nail on the head. I have my own snow and I am sure glad I did not spend all the money I will be spending last month or even the month before that. Here is to hoping Mr Gore gets some of the global warming cap and trades installed in Florida before March 1th. Otherwise I will be forced to try out Arizona next.

I'm all for being more environmentally conscious, but I don't like when someone preaches it but doesn't practice it themselves. Jerry is right, we may never know if global warming is real, but a cleaner world never hurts.

We've had a pretty cold Winter in Columbia, SC as well. It's unusual to hear about snow in the South, but have all had some this year.

The interesting thing is that all of the global warming computer models predict weird weather since global warming puts more moisture into the atmosphere. That moisture has to fall somewhere, either as rain or snow. Just remember that there is a significant difference between climate and your local weather patterns. Climate will affect weather, but weather won't affect climate. With almost seven billion people on Earth, just the warmth from all those bodies, not to mention manufacturing, logically has an effect on climate.

Thanks for the comments every one. But it was really just an obviously feeble attempt at humor.
