Email Strategy: The Phone Number Domain

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Oakley Signs & Graphics

Looking for a quick and easy way to get your name and your phone number attached to every email you send? Try this quick and inexpensive trick:

1. Pick the phone number you'd like to get in front of people most often, including area code

2. Go to GoDaddy.com and reserve the phone number as a domain name (with dashes). For example: 555-123-4567.com. (Replace this number with your own phone number, of course.)

3. Have an email address setup using the phone number domain name you purchased. Your webmaster or hosting company can help you with this. You could use either your first name, or your first and last name.

4. Optionally, you can have your email program reply to all email using your new address:

Example:
yourname@555-123-4567.com

Variations:
tina@555-123-4567.com
tinasmith@555-123-4567.com
tina-smith-realestate@555-123-4567.com

Now your clients will have your name and contact phone number readily available!

It's also a good idea to have the phone number domain redirect to your main website. Most hosting companies or webmasters can help you set this up easily. This way, your phone number domain will also point people right back to your real estate website.

Click here to reserve your phone domain name for just $7.49 through GoDaddy.com.

(Full disclosure: Purchasing through the above link will not only give you a great discount, but it also gives Oakley Signs a little credit with GoDaddy. You can buy your domain name anywhere you like, no strings of course-- but we'd certainly appreciate the boost, if you feel like it!)

I think this strategy depends on weather you value promoting your companies website or you phone number more. I guess its going to differ based on the individual.

@Jordan, I definitely agree it will depend on the individual.

For a lot of people, their phone number is the one thing that won't change over the years-- especially if it's a cell phone number they've had for a long time.

They may change companies, brokerages, change free email providers, and even change addresses, but the mobile number is one thing a real estate pro doesn't want to change too often.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion!

@Steve, @Ritu: Glad you like the idea!  We try to share ideas we think will help agents become more successful.  After all, there's no way we can sell signs if agents aren't landing and selling listings!

@John: It's true, there's almost no end to the ways you can spend money to try and get the phone to ring.  We like to try to focus on ways agents can make good investments in their business versus "money down the tube."

I thought I'd heard it all.  This is a great tip.  And if you already have hosting with unlimited domains/emails, all this is going to cost is the $7.49/yr domain registration.

Pretty neat.  Thanks.

An update =)  I went through with the order anyway (planning to use a promo code) but when I got to the check out, it had the price at $7.49.  I don't know why they don't just show it upfront, but all's well that ends well.  Thanks.
