So I've herd the only difference between the Smokies and our beautiful mountains of Southern WV is the Lack of imagination. Okay so there may be truths to that as most of the land in our Wyoming/McDowell county mountains is currently tied up in 4 major land/coal companies who refuse to let go of an inch. For Ive learned that our Mountains here really don't need Dolly Pardon or Broadway shows to bring in the tourists. We have imagination here that nature alone as set pace for. Fayette county for example has the most wonderful topography, views, rivers and farms. Last year the gorge opened up a new attraction called Zip Line. I would never imaging whizzing across an open gorge strapped to a wire but from the tourist feedback on this hair-raising event it is a most grand experience. So, take a heavy wire, secure it to one mountain then to another and let people ride it...imagine that!!-But some would say it lacks imagination, Ive seen this example of lack of imagination bring people from over our countries boarders to enjoy. People love it! Even though my toes tingle at the thought, I think it a most wonderful thing...No tall flashy buildings with a gaudy sign hanging off a rooftop to distort our beautiful landscape. Along with that, we have whitewater rafting, which is huge (again no tall flashy buildings) horseback tours through the mountains, rock climbing, atv tours, biking, hiking, guided fishing trips again no tall flashy crap crowding the interstate exits. Lets let the Smokies keep their imagination, we have here a true beauty mother nature gave us. Have a little look for yourself through some of what Fayette Co has to offer:
Paige, Your part of the country really is a beautiful place. My Ozark Mountains are not quite as tall, but we still Love them, and I can tell from your post you Love your WV Mountains as well!
SOUTHERN WV hands down!! Being from Charleston I my be a little biased!! Do you do any work in Glade Springs?
JE
Thanks John, I do Love the mountains here, I couldnt imagine living anywhere else. Jason I do work at Glade. I work out of the Century 21 Office in Beckley and live in Beckley as well, & am a member of the Fayette-Nicholas County Board of Realtors as well as the Raleigh County Board. Glade is yet another treasure our area offers, the resorts location alone is perfect for people from our southern states purchasing a second home for the climate offers much more cooler relaxing summers and adventurous winters being close to Winterplace. I grew up in Shady Springs but my parents now live in Nitro which allows me to travel through Charleston quite a bit to visit, I dare not venture off the turnpike though~I'm not very familiar with the city.
Here are a few links to Glade Springs Resort and the Village.
