The expiration of the home buyer tax credit is upon us.

I'd like to put out a caution about getting caught up in the last minute frenzy as the deadline approaches and warn about overpaying on a home or purchasing the wrong home just to get your 8k.

The buying process in general contains some emotion. Throw a pile of cash into the mix and the emotions can really take over.

If the house you are looking to buy is a place that you plan on calling home for a long time, the focus should be on what the house has to offer with the floor plan, it's location and the town you will call home. Not the one time event of the 8k you receive. Unfortunately this money will be gone soon enough, whether you get it or not. Buying the wrong home will not be gone soon enough...
