Pro Blogging "No Holds Barred"

By

Hulk Hogan

*Pro blogging?  On blogs outside of ActiveRain.

I have long wondered if some of real estate blog feuding is for real.  Lately there seems to be a lot of "simulated elements of mock combat" on blogs.  I borrowed that phrase from Wikipedia's 'Pro Wrestling' entry but it fits like Hulk Hogan's tie dyed tights.

I respect their showmanship. I am entertained after a fashion but I wonder sometimes if it is all staged and if it is staged why it can't look more real.

Wikipedia says of professional wrestling:"Professional wrestling, or pro wrestling, is the performance, management, and marketing of a form of entertainment that is based on simulated elements of catch wrestling, mock combat and theatre. Modern professional wrestling usually features striking and grappling techniques, which are modelled after diverse sets of global wrestling and pugilistic styles."

It just all seems to boil down to getting traffic. IMHO a pre-occupation with SEO is an early warning sign of someone going "pro."  Is it to sell blogs on certain real estate blogging platforms? No holds barred?  Anything goes. Whatever it takes. That's entertainment!

Signs of "professional real estate blogging" include:

1. Wearing tights and a boa

2. Documenting the plan of battle on a public forum that people can read your next move via Google Alerts

3. Tag team - your blog platform team joins in to pummel the other brand of blogs.

Can't you find the recommendation to attack someone to boost traffic from a blogging guru or two right here on ActiveRain?  Need traffic attack someone.  It can't be on ActiveRain though because there are Guidelines against personal attacks.  "Buy a blog on my blogging platform for real estate.... "

ActiveRain has Guidelines which include (but are not limited to... )

  • Do not personally attack another person.
  • Do not slander another person
  • We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech which contains slurs or the malicious use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality.
  • There is zero tolerance for predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, invading privacy, or the revealing of other members' personal information. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from ActiveRain.

There's a link to Guidelines on the bottom of every ActiveRain screen.

Do you like attacks on blogs and other bloggers thinly veiled or totally transparent?  Or does it all leave you cold?  The really odd thing to me is those who write entries about catch phrases like "transparency" and then show up on ActiveRain, one of the big RE blogs or a blogging guru's blog wearing  tights and a boa with their team ready for some tag team professional real estate blogging.

* ProBlogging is the name of a respected blog written by Darren Rowe about making money from blogging.  This entry is not about that blog. If you did not understand what this entry  is about. I'm sorry, move along, there's plenty to read on ActiveRain! If  you  think this blog is about you.. do you really wear tights and a boa? If not stop being so paranoid.  The photo of Hulk Hogan is from Wikipedia and is not copyrighted according to Wikipedia.

David your comment made me laugh.

I can't wait for Beat Michigan week on ActiveRai this year.  It was quiet last year. Elaine quit AR in mid October 2006 and did not come back until ???  After Beat Michigan Week anyway...

This year should be more fun.

In this corner we have Frances Flynn Thorsen in the blue tie dyed tights and a tasteful blue and white boa with  http://www.realtown.com//RealTownReport/blog/news/saulkleinceopoint2#c10535

and in the other corner (do they do that start out in corners like in boxing?) we have Dustin Luther in pink tights (he is in a pink shirt on Twitter... ) and a flashy fuchsia and chartreuse boa and a hot pink cape with http://4realz.net/2007/12/20/clearly-i-got-to-frances-with/

He started it with:

http://4realz.net/2007/12/19/saul-klein-as-ceo-of-point2-really/

another BHB's review of the Real Estate Zebra's first black and white video.  That's why I actually went to look at REZ's black and white video... I thought he was going to slam consumers... I kept waiting for it.

Staged?  Show?

I'm not sure if they are staged or not but if they are compelling in their arguments I enjoy the back and forth.  The throwdowns to name call are not entertaining even and just end up looking like grade school.  I'm sure there's none of that here, though.

I am compelled to look, just like when I see sensationalism on the web, the front page of a tabloid in the grocery store checkout  or a car accident. In fact I go back to check who said what... latest Dustin chastises Frances on her blog for not responding in a timely manner on his blog...to what facts he had wrong... What I got from Frances response to Dustin is that you can not hurry journalism....

I think it is interesting from the point of view of baby boomers vs. Gen X.  Loyalty, what have you done for me lately kind of thinking or that's what I tell myself so I can go back and watch more..I guess personally I just don't have the thighs to wear those tights.

Today BHB is about Teri L. ruminating about the REZ video whether it is offensive to the general public, or not... whether just the RE blogging clique thinks it is funny. I believe Teri posted the video on her blog.... Cheryl J. posted about it on Twitter...   Thanks for the comment Josette...

Maureen, the blue tie-dyed tights are going to have to wait until I lose another 50 pounds!

Intelligent discussion in the blogosphere will continue, however. Why not? When bloggers make assessments and judgments without a look at history at the same time that they portray themselves as "experts," it invites a look at that history from more seasoned professionals.

When we have those discussions in an office environment, there are fewer eyes and ears. When we do that in the blogosphere, there are more witnesses to the discussion and it becomes a discussion among many people. That is one of the miracles of the Internet, the opportunity to interact and have an intelligent discussion across the miles.

I would hardly liken the present exchange to a silly, staged wrestling match. I am more inclined to use an analogy more academic and serious. I'd probably go for a cartoon of a school marm in a hairnet ... that is much more apropos than Hulk Hogan, IMHO ;-)

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful and joyful holiday, all!!

Sorry the image of a school marm in a hair net escapes me... To me it looks like pro wrestling with the trash talk...  as much as most things that inspired this blog, long, long ago...  but I am not a wrestling fan... I just loved the photo... and had always wondered if the BIG stuff in the RE Net was real or staged.. as well as some of the small stuff...

I think the difference of baby boomer vs. gen xyz..  is interesting.

Merry Christmas to all!  I wonder if Teri ever got a green and/ or  red boa to wear....

Ah.... thanks for the clarification!

I did not perceive it as such. Dustin is a gentleman ... I view this exchange as healthy dialogue more than anything else. My response is purely academic ... I speak in strong terms, certainly, but that is my writing style ... that has ALWAYS been my writing style.

We all share a passion for the Internet ... working with Saul Klein and having an opportunity to share his passion is a special joy. Anyone who has ever met Saul or heard him speak will testify that he displays a very strong, sincere, and special passion ... it makes it hard to usher a half-baked and lukewarm response to a post that lacks depth of knowledge and history.

And thank YOU for offering another platform where we can talk about shared passions and the art of dialogue on the Internet!

My apologies to Frances if I a have offended her by comparing the give and take between her blog and Dustins on whether Saul Klein is deserving of the position at Point 2  as "Pro Blogging."

It's what it looks like to me.  It doesn't matter to me if Frances did not see Dustin's blog as trash talk.  I did. I do.  I should have gone to check if I really know what "hyperbole" means before starting this comment, but I didn't.  Shoot me.... Jonathan Dalton wrote in a comment on Dustin's 2nd post,

http://4realz.net/2007/12/20/clearly-i-got-to-frances-with/

"For me I’m not a big fan of hyperbole on either side. You’re absolutely right in that what IC provides works for a vast group of real estate agents.

But it’s also not the end all, be all of real estate technology.

I’ve always been somewhat amazed at those who choose to defend RealTown, Active Rain, etc. … not for simply choosing to defend the platform, which is fine, but with the zealousness they bring to the discussion."

Maybe what reminds me of trash talk is what Jonathan described as hyperbole.

Gee I had to go take a look at what hyperbole means... wouldn't want to have an opinion and not back it up with fact, have all my ducks in a row, have it carefully spell checked and edited... hey wait... it's just a blog, some of us are not journalists, don't want to be journalists, don't need to be journalists.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/hyperbole

"A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect, as in I could sleep for a year or This book weighs a ton."

Yeah maybe Jonthan was not saying exactly what I thought ...

Maureen,

No offense taken, no apology necessary ... and keep in mind that zealousness is a product of passion, which is a very good thing. There is a sense of community on the Web on various platforms that transform some people into evangelists. That is more of the magic of the Internet.

I hope that your holiday is full of joy. The birds in Tucson are singing Christmas Carols! It is utterly enchanting!

They upset me even when I am not involved.  seems like some people who can dish out talk about "transparency" are the same people who are staging blog wars.  What's transparent about a fake fight.
