Federal Forest Land a place to contemplate 9/11

The last couple of years I have driven to one of my favorite look out points in the White Mountain National Forest stopped for a moment at 9:11 am on September 11^th and sat quiet. I have never been to the site of the twin towers, the Pentagon or walked in a field in Pennsylvania, but I have often stood on Federal preservation land and contemplated this crazy world we live in.

I didn’t personally know anyone on those planes, or the people that worked in the buildings they hit…but these were Americans who went to work that morning to provide a better life for their families and I honor them today, and each day by not forgetting this tragedy.

People from other parts of this world may hate us for the freedoms we have but we stand strongest when we stand together. No matter your race, religion or political party remembering this day will help heal those that lost a loved one, and hopefully avoid anything like this from happening again.

I will do my absolute best to add a photo to this collection each year to help remember the lessons of 9/11 and to hold dear the patriotism of being an American everyday.

Jeanean, May we all remember in our own unique way. I was in a meeting the morning of the events and we left the conference room to find a TV. I remember the guys and gals that stood shoulder to shoulder in disbelief as we watched this whole thing unfold.

Steve...there are many places that are doing a moment of silence, but I believe that you have the right idea. Taking a small part of the day in a quiet place and really looking at what had happened and how our lives have changed. That is how we will remember!

Steve... Like you, I didn't *personlly* know anyone in the 9/11 tragedy. This doesn't mean it didn't have an affect on me. I'm proud to be an American, and they were my brothers and sisters. United We Stand. God Bless America. Thank you for this wonderful tribute.

Bill, As a child I truly felt those that said they were "fighting for peace"...were uttering an oxymoron, time and maturity taught me they were right, we do have to fight for peace. I'll drive in to the forest to find my peace.

Steve I wish I could also say that I did not know anyone who lost their life that day, but someone that I spent many hours with watch our kids play Little League and soccer, lost his life that day helping other get out of on of the towers. It is hard to understand the kind of hate that would do take the lives of innocent people and be proud about it.

George...the theory of six degrees of separation is at work here, I knew there would be someone with a direct connection to a person (or persons) lost in this tragedy...my heart goes out to your friend's family.

I didn't personally know anyone who died that day either Steve. But one of my agents is also a United Airlines flight attendant. She personally knew SO many crew members and I can still see the pain her eyes.

And George- prayers specifically for your friend's family and you my friend.

Steve- I think your annual tribute is great. We all need a peaceful place to reflect. Yours is beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Tammy, I think National parks are one of the great things our government guarantees for it's citizens, and I for one will enjoy this freedom when I remember the cost of freedom.
