Looking Under My Kitchen Sink Cannot Possibly Mean All is Well

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Indianapolis Metro NE RB14023803

Plumber Tom BartlettI will admit to you, the reader, that I keep lots of stuff under my kitchen sink.  You would probably be amazed--a trash can, cleaning supplies, houseplant supplies, a lint roller, potato scrubber, trash bags, dog shampoo, rubber gloves and on and on.  I can get to all of these items by simply opening the cabinet and blindly reaching in.  The key word here being BLINDLY. If I have to use my eyes to see something, it means we probably have bad news.

I only look under the sink if I suspect a leak or the garbage disposal is not working.

Who do I call when I suspect a problem under my sink?  None other than Tom Bartlett with Universal Maintenance Services.  (Since this blog was posted, Tom has retired and is no longer in the business of helping home owners with repairs). He has come to the rescue on more than one occasion and always makes whatever is wrong, right.

I am considered an expert in my area.  Most people assume that I know almost everything there is to know about real estate and the market in my area which includes Indianapolis, and surrounding areas such as Fishers and Carmel.  The key word here being almost.  I would like to think that I do not disappoint those who count on me.

I have learned over time that my clients do not really expect me personally to have all of the answers. They actually seem to appreciate it when I admit there is something of which I am unsure.  Makes me seem human rather than super human.  What my clients do expect of me is that I will know Super REALTORwho to call to get the answer we need.  Whether it is repair people, contractors, attorneys, title companies or even babysitters.

So just as my clients come to depend and rely on me, I have my list of super heros on whom I know I can depend--whether it is for my real estate business or my own personal chaos, I always have someone standing by, ready to help!

It was just another day at the office for Tom.  He got me all fixed up so that I won't have to look under that nasty kitchen sink again for a long time---that is unless someone on Active Rain comes up with another bright idea for a contest!!!

I don't know Pat, nobody's under sink cabinet looks quite like mine (overstuffed).  No matter how hard I try to be organized, I have more stuff than room.  Love the post!

Pat, it's always difficult to come up with some ideas for 'under the kitchen sink' - have one more day left in contest and will see what I can come up with.

Sure enough, this is a winning entry - (or 2nd winner...if I post my entry...just kidding)

Ah, another great post assimilating "what's under my sink" to real estate.  Next someone may come up with "what's hiding in your closets"!!  And than after that -- "what's hiding in your drawers, hummmm"  I bet there are many interesting objects there as well as under our sinks.

Geri~~I really only clean under there if I have to have a plumber in.  By then, water has damaged enough that I can simply pitch it!  I stay organized for about a week after that!  Thanks for the comments.

John~~  As I mentioned to Geri, I usually only clean under my sink if I need to call in a plumber---so don't feel too bad!

Pat, great story of under the sink!    I recently let the water bucket overflow, and water went down the cabs and under the sink, so had quite a mess to clean up.   Guess it was a good time to clean it all out!

Pat  Well done - an intelligent person knows their limitations.  I am suspicious of any real estate broker who feels compelled to instantly answer a client's question.  We have another thing in common - we acknowledge that plumbing is one of those areas where we excel in a lack of knowledge :)

Real Estate Agents ARE superheros... didn't they teach you that in real estate school.. Those capes are handed out with the grade.  I know they gave you one.  Mine hangs in my closet since I don't have a thing that goes with it except those red pumps!

Funny Judi!!  No, they taught us that we would gain at least ten pounds our first year in the business---did not mention it would also happen in all proceeding years!  So I now wear that cape just to cover up---still do quite a bit of flying faster than a speeding bullet though.
