The Harford County Public Schools elementary school redistricting draft plan is now available on the district website's Elementary Redistricting page. Click here to see it. The website includes maps that show the new districts that will feed each elementary school. The redistricting was done to both fill the new Red Pump Elementary School due to open for the 2011-2012 school year and to alleviate overcrowding at schools with over capacity enrollments. There is a place on the site to click to submit feedback, which will be reviewed before the Superintendent's Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) presents the plan to the Board of Education later this month. The board is to hold regional community meetings and public hearings in December, January, and February. It is scheduled to vote on the plan at the end of February to meet the March 1st deadline to have the redistricting plan in place in time for the start of the 2011-2012 school year. The Red Pump Elementary School, now under construction north of Bel Air, is on schedule to open at the beginning of the 2011 school year. However, the redistricting plan that will determine which students will attend the new school is two months behind schedule according to a story in Friday's Aegis. March 1, 2011 is the deadline to complete the redistricting in order to open the new school on time.
