Update to Back up Your Computer

So, I did lose everything on my hard drive. I feel very lucky that my database is web based and I had many of my files on my office server. Still, I lost all of my emails, details on every transaction I've done this year which cannot be replaced. I also lost all of the painstaking research and links to different banks I was working on.

So.... once the panic subsided, I started recreating as much as I could. I now weekly back up my computer and hope everyone learns at my expense.  There are many ways to back up your files. Please if do not know how, or are not already doing it, make it a priority, your business depends on it!

Christina, you're preaching to the choir.  I've lost so much work over the years to electronic failure that I back up both my home & office computers with external drives.  Then I back up many of my office files to my home computer anyway.

I had my hard drive crash about 6 months ago and thought that I may lose everything. Before you believe everything is gone there are computer repairs shops out there that can do data recovery from the drive. It only cost me about $125 and that was even putting in a new hard drive. I recovered just about everything even email from outlook.

It was still a huge hassle. Therefore backing up is still the way to go!

Between the home server, thumb drives, and off-site storage (via FTP), I think about 97% of our stuff would be reproducible if we had a meltdown on any given day.  Of course, that 3% would hurt... a lot.

Christina,

I hope it's not too costly, that loss of info. It's something we all get too busy to do, oftentimes until it's too late.
