Agent follow up!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Professionals of Florida, LLC
It amazes me how often I get offers/contract from other agents, and once the deal is accepted you never hear from them again unless you call and hound them to respond.  Do they not know what they are supposed to do next.  Do agents not realize how important the follow up all the way to the closing table really is.  The best way to describe it is that you have to be like a baby sitter, and watch every step that is made.  it makes me wonder if other agents really want to earn a living or just have it handed to them?  I would like to see what other agents are experiencing with this topic?

Yes, it is like they go under the witness protection program...lol.  It's like they are on to the next deal and leave you to handle everything else.  What can yu do but make sure you are not the one doing it and pray for a better, more cooperative partner the next time around.

You are not the first agent to say this.  I have heard this from many agents.  Personally, I put it on my calendar to follow up every week and even more often the closer to settlement we get.  But, so many agents got into the business during better times and brokerage/offices were too busy to properly train these people or they just didn't have the training programs in place to train these agents and now we have a whole raft of agents who don't know that they need to keep in touch all the way through the transaction.

The winds of change are upon us and many of those same agents are now getting out of the business because they can't make money the way they were making money so pretty soon we'll be left with the people who know how to communicate and get the job done.

Hang tight!!

I wouldn't hound them.  I would request their response to inspections etc... in writing.  So, if they don't respond in time you have something to got to the cooperating broker with and the other party in the transaction.  Unless there is an extenuating circumstance, I don't babysit.

Agent follow up ... HA!  Follow up got me in the door for a listing appointment and after everything was said and done, the owner tells me I was 1 out of 5 agents that she had scheduled for interviews.  2 agents called her back (myself being one) 1 called the day after my first appointment (she told him too late) and the other 2 never responded.  NOW ... I received this lead from a referral through ActiveRain and I followed up with the referring agent as well (who just happened to talk to these clients often) and he mentioned how I would be the better choice since I even bothered to follow up with him!  I call agents all the time and its like why bother having a phone or voice-mail if you're not going to respond ... in a timely manner of course.

I guess for those of us who follow through ... better for us ... frustrating but better! This is a business after-all.
