The Essence of Feng Shui

By

I casually studied Feng Shui a few years ago as part of an effort to immerse myself and understand the culture of the San Francisco bay area when I worked and lived in Silicon Valley.  Every book store I went into had an entire section on Feng Shui.  I bought and studied several books, attended a class, and experimented with my living quarters. It was done playfully, yet the final effect was pleasing and inviting.

Feng Shui has many rules about about use of color, placement of furniture and orientation of the house and rooms to ensure health and good fortune that I took with a grain of salt, but what came shining through to me was the idea that a home should have "good energy" also called chi, which flowed effortlessly throughout the home - a good floorplan helps with this, but if the floorplan isn't perfect, placement of furniture can overcome this.

I have repeatedly seen professional stagers overcome poor floorplans by expert placement of furniture that most people wouldn't have considered. The end result is always amazing and a vast improvement. To me, a home with good energy is the essence of Feng Shui and essential to help sellers differentiate their homes and effect a sale.

I agree Colleen - Feng Shui is known by different names in different cultures - in India it is known as 'Vastu Shastra' - and people who believe in it will make all important decisions especially when buying a home based on these beliefs.  Positive energy is very critical in all walks of life!

I'm not sure most people "know" what it is when they walk through a home but they know they like it, Colleen.
