I've just returned from a long overdue couple of days off. I set out with my niece and my Mom and Dad to spend the Thanksgiving weekend at our cabin in Christina Lake, BC. We left Calgary's green grass and mild weather to head into the Rocky Mountains where they were alerting travellers of a severe snow fall. Luckily we made it through Banff National Park with just a little bit of rain and clear, mostly dry roads.
We arrived in Radium, BC and, as is the case a lot of the time in this area, there was wildlife running and grazing through the streets of town. In the past we have always just drove through with a mission of getting to the cabin as soon as we could, but this time (because I was driving) I decided that I wanted to stop and take a couple of pictures and really take it all in.
I try not to miss an opportunity these days to use my new camera, the Canon S5 IS.
This is what we saw first...
There were Big Horn Sheep running all through the streets. There must have been 50 or more within a block. I continued to take pictures and when we arrived at the cabin later that night we saw a pattern in my pictures. This was another one of them.
See if you can tell what the pattern may be.
Normally on our trips to the cabin we pack snacks, sandwiches and drinks so all we have to stop for is gas. I remember as a kid mom and dad would take the time to stop at a rest area or small lake at the summit of one of the mountain passes and we would have a lunch picnic and enjoy the outdoors and nature. I found as I got older and we started travelling on our own that we were so focused on getting to our destination that we never made time to stop and enjoy the sights, scenery or wildlife.
Things have gone full circle for me now and I I've decided that I want to have those picnics and stop at the side of the road to observe the wildlife so these are the first of my wildlife pictures for this Thanksgiving weekend.
