Do you "SUGGEST" posts? I suggest you do. Become a called shot master.

Active Rain is a community that supports itself through community involvement. We all write blogs to get noticed. We can post a blog in up to five groups for more exposure.  We write about a lot of topics including market reports, property listings, neighborhood events, personal stories and helpful tips. We hope that people actually read what we write. When we read something that we find interesting, helpful or that we can relate to, we are compelled to leave a comment. But what if you felt the blog deserves more than just a comment?

Have you ever read a post that you thought should get more attention?

A post that was worthy of the coveted  FEATURE STAR?  feature star

Well, you can do something about it.

suggest button

There is a SUGGEST button at the top right hand corner of the blog that you are reading. You have the option of clicking on the button if you feel that the blog is of importance and should be recognized for its quality content.

By clicking on the suggest button, you are letting the Active Rain staff know that someone has written a blog of value and that it should be shared community wide and not just in the five group limit. After all, with over 207,000 members, the staff can't possibly be reading every blog on here. They need our assistance.

This button was first introduced in June of 2010 by Brad Andersohn. It replaced the old icon at the bottom of the blog that allowed for similar actions. The suggest button at the top of the page is more prominent and we all hope that you don't hesitate to use it.

You may also notice on your home page, under your profile picture, an item -- CALLED SHOTS.called shots

This indicates the number of times that you have suggested a blog that went on to be featured. Not every suggestion will get featured. I believe that a blog has to be suggested by more than one person to get featured. But you can still let your opinion be heard.
So, the next time you read a blog and you feel that the content is valuable and you want it to be shared community wide, consider clicking on the SUGGEST button and become a called shot master.

This is one of the greatest Features of AR Craig, being able to "call the shots" when you feel a post is worthy of more attention.  Right now, I have 171 called shots.

Craig,

I'm going to click suggest because it adds value to the members. I love to click suggest but I never knew why! You make it sound so simple and inviting for people who don't know more about it to participate.

I don't believe most people are just posting for the sake of posting to acquire points. I think that there are many posts that add value to an individual or could benefit the greater good of its members.

Thanks for the enlightenment! It always helps to know why you're doing something.

All the best to you!

Patricia

I wish you had explained this about three months ago.  :)

Didn't see it in the post but you get one of these after calling a few.

Thanks Craig.

Trang, another day, another Active Rain learning experience. There's so much knowledge to be gained here and the members are eager and willing to share.

Roger, 171 called shots, impressive. You seem to have  a keen eye for valuable content. Please continue so that we all can see what you have been reading.

Patricia, thank you for suggesting. I agree that people are truly posting because they see value in what they are writing and want to share it with others. Even a simple market report has value as well as the heart felt story told about a personal experience not related to real estate.

Tom,  this post is a little late for some, on time for others. There's always a new learning experience here. I am still learning.... You are correct sir. the purple star under your name in a comment post indicates you are a called shot master. Thank you for pointing that out as well. Thank you for suggesting.

Craig - this is such a great post! I didn't know how you became a shot master until months after being on AR - this will help a lot of newbies get their purple star and they should always let people know they've suggested their post - this lends itself to great networking.

I believe I can thank you for suggesting many of my posts and I'm so glad to consider you my new AR buddy! You are on your way to being an AR rock star- you consistently put out great posts and share your knowledge -  I'm already a big fan!  Oh, by the way - suggested!

Craig, posts like this are so valuable to new and experienced AR members.  There are a lot of features of AR that are misunderstood and there is no where to get an explanation except from a blog.  Once again, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Kristine, I think the majority of us came in to Active Rain clueless. One of the nice things about this community is the eagerness to teach and share knowledge. It's what keeps Active Rain strong.   I have no problem suggesting your posts. You continue to share your expertise, your professional knowledge and your personal side. The content is very valuable and your pictures are vibrant.  THANK YOU for suggesting this post, buddy.

Debb, that's how it works. Commenting back and forth and building relationships.

Brian, Active Rain does have a manual. But seriously, how many people have actually read throught it. It's easy to find info here in a blog. Just search for it.

Craig, I didn't know that.  I always wondered what the "suggest" button was for.  I just re-blogged the ones that I really liked.

By the way, why do you not allow re-blogging?  I'm sure you have a reason, and this is the type of information that I would typically share.

Cindy, we are always learning something new here in Active Rain. As for re-blogging -- I think because it was originally posted "members only" it cannot be re blogged. If you wanted to, you could write your own blog and include a link back to this one. Just a thought.

I edited and changed it to "Public". See if that helps.

Clint, your welcome. your groupie status is awaiting you.
