Travelling to our cabin in BC is about a 7 hour drive (approximately 400 miles) through mountain passes and in that time you can experience many different kinds of wildlife and variety of weather conditions. When we set out on Friday morning in Calgary it was cool, yet sunny, the grass was still green and the trees were fall colors of orange, yellow and firey red. I love this time of year when the leaves have changed color.
As we make our way through the first half of the drive the sun was shining and you could see the many colors of fall. A little more than half way through the 7 hour drive we have to make our way up to 1770 meters, the summit of the Creston Salmo Pass. It is always so breathtaking and this trip was no exception. In a matter of minutes the temperature dropped from 12 degrees Celsius heading up the pass with beautiful fall colors on either side of the highway to a chilly 2 degrees Celsius at the summit and a view that will be perfect for my Christmas cardsthis year. I couldn't resist the opportunity to capture this wintery scene so I stopped and took a bunch of pictures; these were a couple of my favorites.
We all got back into our vehicles and my niece and I began our decent down the Creston Salmo Pass. Within a couple of minutes we left that wintery scene behind us and we were once again surrounded by fall weather and colors. While I was driving, my niece took out my camera and starting snapping shots of the mountain side from inside the truck. To my surprise, some of the pictures turned out pretty good. To get an idea of how quickly things change in the mountains, these are a few of the pictures my niece took on our way down the mountain.
I've been making this drive every year (sometimes a couple of times a year) since I was 4 weeks old and it never gets boring, it just gets more beautiful. Visit Part I of Thanksgiving of Many Seasons and Surprises, for more pictures of our trip.
