BCCC LogoBucks County Community College is adding three new majors to its educational programming starting this fall. BCCC has been preparing students from Bucks, Philadelphia & Montgomery Counties and surrounding areas since 1964. BCCC offers many educational opportunities for recent high school graduates and adult learners with a plethora of traditional college credits, continuing education and certificate programs.

In its effort to continue to match educational offerings with the needs of the community, BCCC will offer the following new programs: an associate degree in health information technology, an associate degree in criminal justice and a certificate in recreational management.

Medical ArtsThe health information technology degree (67 credits) will give students the training needed to enter the administrative healthcare field. The American Health Information Technology Association, the industry's trade association, has projected 6,000 HIT professionals will be needed each year. Currently only 2,000 new graduates enter the field each year. The increased number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures create the increased demand for new graduates. Group physician offices, home healthcare companies, outpatient centers, nursing and residential care facilities and hospitals are all expected to make additional hires. No doubt the aging Baby Boom population is playing a large part here as well.

To learn more about the health information technology degree or the medical coding and billing certificate contact the BCCC Department of Business Studies at 215-968-8227, e-mail business@bucks.edu or visit www.bucks.edu/business.

The new 61-credit associate degree in criminal justice is designed for students transferring to a four year program. This new degree merges BCCC's correctional administration and police administration majors into a single new program, expanding on the synergies these separate majors suggest.

For students who complete the four year criminal justice major, job opportunities include FBI agent, DEA agent, police officer, probation officer or fraud investigator, etc.  Contact the Department of Social and Behavioral Science at 215-968-8270, e-mail sb@bucks.edu or visit www.bucks.edu/social for more information.

An exciting new offering is an 18-credit certificate in recreation leadership. Types of organizations that might employ certificate holders include summer adventure camps, municipal recreation departments, YMCAs and outdoor programming centers according to the college. To learn more, contact the Department of Health, Physical Education and Nursing at 215-968-8451, e-mail health@bucks.edu or visit www.bucks.edu/health.

Sports

BCCC is accepting applications and registration for these and all fall semester programs. The BCCC fall semester begins Aug. 24, 2011. Tuition is $111 per credit for Bucks County residents and slightly higher for non Bucks residents.  Courses are available at the Newtown, Upper Bucks (Perkasie) and Lower Bucks (Bristol) Campuses and also online through the college’s "virtual campus."

To learn more, visit www.bucks.edu/fall, e-mail admissions@bucks.edu or call 215-968-8100.
