Special offer

How good are you at negotiating.

Hopefully you're very good; it's a huge part of what we do every day.

I've learned there's a reason we have 2 ears and only 1 mouth; it's to listen twice as much as you talk. ;-)

Seriously though, the more you can learn about a situation of any kind the better offers and counteroffers you will be able to make and the more likely you can reach a satisfactory conclusion for everyone involved.

One of my favorite negotiating tactcs is silence. Say something or ask a question and then DO NOT SAY ANYTHING until the other party either answers or responds. Silence is a devastingly effective negotiating tool.

Probably one of the greatest negotiators I've ever heard of is a guy named Herb Cohen, he's written several books including one titled "Negotiate This". Herb is such a master negotiator he has taught hostage negotiation to the FBI.

There's a self grading quiz at http://www.realtor.org/ that will let you test your negotiating skills and also some great articles to help you improve them.
